HOME SWEET HOME

After Dark ASia Volume 4Currently, I am in the process of moving out of one town house and into another town house. If there is one thing that I dislike intensely it is moving. It is tiring and stressful especially when you have acquired the mountain of clobber and other personal paraphernalia that I have. Believe me when I say mountain, because “the trouble and strife” or for non-Brits the wife, could collect for her country! Over the years we have bought tons of stuff, which is alright until that dreaded big moves arrives. Oh well, we battle on and yet again I find myself having to move. (more…)

WE HAVE LIFT OFF!

Rainbow 4 Go Go Bar - Nana Plaza - Bangkok - ThailandHold tight riders, here we go! We have lift off in my new cyberspacecraft to travel at warp speed to Bangkok and beyond. I was very fortunate to meet Mr. Ed who is a very talented Web Wizard. Together we have modified the website giving it a modern look, but we felt it was important for the site to still be easy to navigate. It is now both visually appealing and user-friendly. Thanks to Mr. Ed, Dave The Rave has entered the 21st Century in style. I am very pleased with what a terrific job Mr. Ed has done and the photo gallery is particularly impressive. Just simply click on a thumb image and it will appear on the right. This makes it very easy to interchange between images. The modified version as a whole cuts scrolling and clicking down to a minimum. All of these improvements have been implemented so that visiting this website will be enjoyable, appealing and convenient. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Ed and we hope that you will become a regular reader. Also, a special thank you goes out to my devoted following who have remained loyal throughout all of the ups and downs that go with running a website. (more…)

THE HOG’S LAST BREATH

San Miguel Beer In ThailandThere is sad news for those who used to frequent Hog’s Breath Saloon (located on floor 2 in Nana Plaza), because an era has come to an end. The owners finally decided to sell up; this follows many years of serving their loyal following of Western expats. Bob has co-owned Hog’s Breath since 1987 and it is sad to think this is the Hog’s last breath. (more…)

THE COUP COUP CLOCK IS TICKING

Walking Street PattayaThe coup coup clock is ticking for Thailand, amid an uneasy air of uncertainty. With some Western countries still insisting on releasing travel warnings for Thailand, I dare say that the Western media has had a field day. I find it very hypercritical of the British government to state that Thailand is so dangerous that British citizens should only visit if absolutely necessary. What a load of absolute garbage! During the worst of the “troubles” in Northern Ireland which spread to bombings in London, there were no terror or travel warnings against Great Britain. At this time there were multitudes of bombs going off - what happened in Bangkok in comparison was like a drop in the ocean. I just hope that Westerners’ are not listening to these travel warnings which are now sounding like a broken record. (more…)

HAPPY NEW YEAR - SAWATDEE PEE MAI

Soi Cowboy - Bangkok, ThailandWhenever a new year commences it is usual practice to celebrate with merriment and joy. This New Year’s Eve saw some very spectacular countdowns across the globe with impressive celebrations across America, Europe and parts of Asia. With the ability to utilize modern technology, the firework and lighting displays were visually spectacular in the wealthy countries. But, as one of my American friends reminded me he would much sooner be in Thailand than freezing his family jewels off, whilst watching an expensive and elaborate fireworks display in near arctic conditions. This reminded me of how lucky I am in many ways to remain the Prisoner In Paradise, which if you have not worked out yet describes my life here in Thailand. This time of year is usually cold but certain parts of America are suffering a bitterly freezing winter. Snowstorms in cities like Denver have been so severe that the airport was forced to cancel many flights. Over the Christmas holidays in London, blinding fog also prevented a lot of flights from leaving. In fact, Brother Steve just made the very last flight out of Heathrow in London and then Heathrow Airport was closed for the day. So, Steve made the trip and just when Thai women thought they were safe… You lucky bugger Steve! (more…)
