SHAKY START FOR SHAKERZ

Shakerz Coyote Club LogoThe Grand Opening of Shakerz Coyote Club got off to a somewhat “shaky” start.  Last Sunday (June 24) Shakerz Coyote Club opened its door to the public.  Situated above Swan Pool Bar, which is right smack bang on the corner of the Sukhumvit, Soi 4 and Sukhumvit, Soi 6 junction.  The two bar owners had tried their very best to recruit the most attractive coyote dancers they could, but this is a tougher task than it looks to observers. Filipino Fever - June 24, 2007

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Last week we briefly talked about Angeles City. In today’s article I want to spend some time talking about another provincial (up country to the Thai residents) men’s playground – Olongapo. Olongapo is more often referred to as Subic Bay because it was the home of the US Naval Base by that name. Olongapo is about 125 km from Manila and 65 from Angeles City. (more…)

WELCOME TO MY WEBLOG WORLD

Living Dolls Showcase PattayaHold tight riders here we go! Welcome to my modified WordPress weblog. It is different so take a bit of time to get used to the feel of it. Don’t be afraid to push a few buttons. Go on, you know you want to and they won’t self-destruct!

DAVE THE RAVE FAN CLUB

To me it is astonishing to think that what started out as a bit of fun among my friends has expanded into a popular website. As an Internet newcomer I had not even sent an email until I moved to Bangkok in 1998. I originate from a rural part of the East Midlands in England. Throughout the 1990s and even (in some cases) to present day few people possessed a personal computer in the rural areas. What started out with a few emails to a group of friends has grown into this website that I now update myself. Remarkable! (more…)

Shakerz Coyote Club LogoHello Guys, this is Mo (aka known as David) from Angeles City and Subic Bay in the Philippines.  I will be bringing you weekly snippets of events and things happening in our little portion of the world. First a little background; I’ve been a resident of the Philippines since 1988 and a regular business traveler to Asia since the late 1970s. Man, that’s a long time ago.

Bulmers English Cider

Sunday, June 17th, 2007

Bullmer's English CiderBulmers Original English Cider is most certainly making an impact right across regions of Thailand.  Its crisp, refreshing taste is so soothing during those humid, tropical nights. Whether you are seeking tranquility on a remote beach, or you are amid the pulsating beat of Thailand’s world famous nightlife - Bulmers is an excellent choice.  Some people talk about Bulmers being an expensive drink. What they do not realize is that it is a MASSIVE drink. This popular English Cider is served over ice from large 568ml bottles.  Bulmers also has a reasonable alcohol volume of 4.5%.  A bottle of Bulmers Original towers above your standard beer bottle.  A small bottle of Heineken or Singha (usually served in farang bars) is no comparison in terms of liquid volume. Bulmers Original English Cider is a most welcomed addition to Thailand’s range of beverages.

Oh, how those memories of English summertime come back like a long lost friend.  Those lazy hazy English summers with village folks tucking into Ploughman’s lunches amid a backdrop of thatch roof cottages. This scenery mixes with the trundling sounds of tractors in the golden corn fields of rural England.  Stunning Cambridge University dolly birds drinking Bulmers Original Cider along the riverbanks of Cambridgeshire.  The summer is the best time to be in merry little England for sure.  Even among the youth in England, you can see that Bulmers Original Cider is a trendy drink.

Daves Raves - If you see a lovely dolly bird that you fancy, then get her on the Bulmers… I hear you utter but why do that?

“It was the cider inside her, that got me inside her!”

Bangkok Bar Closing Times

Soi Cowboy Bangkok

The powers that be have announced that later bar closing hours are currently being permitted again. I mentioned this in Night Fever but in this post I want to focus more upon Bangkok’s bar closing times. Initially the reinstated later bar closing times for Bangkok might not be noticed by some people, but they have come into effect. Soi Nana is now open until at least 2:00 AM on a nightly basis. I was informed by Bangkok Bad Boy that it is not plain sailing for Soi Cowboy.  However, Soi Cowboy only closed at 1:00 AM on one particular night. Soi Cowboy continues to close between 2:00 AM and 2:30 AM on a nightly basis.

Last night (Thursday, June 15) it was raining and at least one bar in Nana Plaza stayed open until 2:45 AM. Tea money is starting to exchange hands once again and you will be able to drink and party later into the early hours.  OK guys, this might not seem like a big deal to some people, but it is absolutely essential for Bangkok’s nightlife venues. Stick Mark II informs us that Patpong will be permitted to stay open 3:00 AM, but at the moment I have no confirmation of this. I just received confirmation that Patpong is indeed open until 3:00 AM. This is a VERY positive stride forward for Bangkok’s nightlife. Party on people!

Some bars that are tucked away from the prominent nightlife areas do stay open very late. Some of these “night cap” bars can be found deeper inside Soi Nana. One such place is Swan Pool Bar and Restaurant, which is situated right on the corner of Soi 6. You can always usually get a night cap after 2:00 AM in Swan Bar, and also in a few other bars (just inside) Soi 6 like Jersey Pub. Of course, this depends on whether the bar owner wants to stay open late. My advice in this kind of situation is if you know the bar owner or manager well, get his mobile phone number. This way you can call beforehand to check if they are still open. It makes more sense than going all the way to a place only to find out that they are closed.

Why do I bother to go into so much detail about the bar closing times? I think it is important when you are planning a night out. You need to know when nightspots are going to close because it varies from area to area in Thailand. The party animals need to know where they can keep partying until the early hours, and other guys just want a simple night cap. Also, if you are not aware of the closing times you could well go home alone if you leave it too late. In a country like Thailand things can change overnight and that is why I think it is important not to take your eye off the ball.

NIGHT FEVER NEWSFLASH

It’s official, the party is on! In a remarkable turnaround the powers that be in Bangkok have lifted the early closing restrictions. Hooray! Cheers of joy and sheer relief echo throughout Thailand. Initially this will not make a big difference to some nightlife entertainment areas in Thailand, but for the bars that were suffering 1:00am closing this is of paramount importance. Just recently Thailand’s nightlife areas have suffered such a drought of customers that it will take time for the word to spread, and for consumer confidence to return. That aside, this means that Night Fever fans can once again enjoy themselves and (hopefully) party until their hearts content. (more…)

Tips Tips

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Knowing how much to tip and even if it is appropriate is a dilemma that both tourists and ex-pats experience. Certainly some things are cut and dry but there are so may unanswered questions. This page will cover massage, restaurants, taxis, Tuk Tuks, hotels, and most certainly bars.

First understand the practice of tipping is a western custom and not a Thai custom, however if it means money coming in the Thais will and did adapt quickly. Tips are and should be directly tied to quality of service. If the service is good then you can tip. If the service is terrible or non existent then just tip a minimal amount. By under tipping it sends a powerful message that you are unhappy with the service, it is that simple. (more…)

NANA PLAZA - NEON JUNGLE NEWS

After Dark Magazine Volume 3Well guys, for you Night Fever fans, I have heard from the “bamboo bugle” that the strict 1:00am closing times should loosen up in the not too distant future. I want to add that this has not been confirmed yet, but this is what we are hearing from the boys in brown. You know, those guys in too tight uniforms who according to Bernard Trink (formerly the Nite Owl columnist for the Bangkok Post), are apparently Lumpini’s finest. Unlike the old Nite Owl, I don’t think “finest” is quite the definition that many of us would use. Currently the early bar closing times of 1:00am-1:30am still remains in Nana Plaza. But, there was a reprieve last Saturday night when Nana Plaza remained open until 2:00am. Let’s all hope that this is a promising sign. (more…)
