Hi Spottie,

Thanks for your comments. Although I respect your opinion, I still don't see why you didn't ask for the "Boss" (as the chief is known here). My advice with more serious matters is to go straight to the top. (For your info) Ed is not the manager, he is the owner and he's usually in Bully's. Also, for the record, there is no way that I am assuming you a liar, because I know that Bully's may have the odd bad egg among them. I think we should lay this one to rest and perhaps agree to disagree.

My comment about London was aimed at the sheer extortion. Taxes upon taxes, upon taxes, upon more taxes! In some ways, more than the actual hard cash, it's the principal of the matter. You seem to be doing well financially, but many others are struggling with the extortionately high cost of living in London.

You are most welcome to visit me in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar in Nana Plaza. I think it would be interesting to meet you Spottie. Cheers!

Hi Dave, thanks for your comments. I did raise the matter at the time with the member of staff who had served me/taken my money. I also raised it with the cashier. I was unaware of any individual (who I now understand is Ed, the manager) with whom I could take this matter further. It is clear that I have raised more than a few hackles with my posts! As to being ripped off all the time as I live in London, well, hmm, let me think. I own my own property in central London (no mortgage!!), I have a pretty decent investment portfolio, I earn a pretty decent salary and I shall retire on a damn good pension by the age of 52 (yes, to the Land of Smiles). Life is sweet when you can enjoy the delights of south-east Asia (and be paid for it to boot), and simultaneously reap the benefits of working in a well paid profession in one of the world's premier financial centres. I do, however, think that you are a decent bloke, Dave, and I'll happily chew the cud with you when I'm next in BKK (I'll buy the beer!)...

Well Spottie, I still think that you have missed one very important thing here. I spoke to my friend Rob about this and therefore, before it's a case of, "I rest my case" some details seem dubious. Most people who had a dispute about their bill would normally speak directly to the owner. Whether we are talking about London or Bangkok this makes sense. Because you never mentioned talking to the owner, it does leave doubts. Before you assume you have rested your case, why didn't you talk to the owner?

This incident has nothing to do with being a regular or not, because by not approaching the owner about the matter, seems very strange.

Hi Dave, I take it that you and your other correspondents are regulars at Bully’s. Although based in London, I’ve been visiting Bangkok and other parts of SE Asia (HK, Viet Nam, Cambodia) for work for over 7 years. I have only ever been ripped off once. That was in Bully’s - I had finished work late and thought that I would take a beer (one!) and snack before going back to my hotel for a kip. The snack, beer and setting were fine. Being ripped off wasn’t. Unlike your other correspondents, I had never set foot in Bully’s before. Perhaps the staff thought I was a 2 week tourist who would never return (unlike your correspondents who are probably regulars?). I normally have a beer or two in other bars on Sukhumvit where I am known by staff and where I have never had any problems. I rest my case, m’lud.

Hi Dave, I see that he was visiting Bully's. I hope that he checked his change after settling his bar bill. Yep, Bully's will always be to me the place where you pay your bar bill with a 1,000 Baht note and the staff short change you ("but you only give 500 Baht!").
