In a shocking series of events, former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s lawyers are sent to prison for six months. An attempted bribe of 2,000,000 Baht, which was sent as a “gift” to the Supreme Court backfired on them.
This will probably damage Thaksin’s image even further…

Actually I don’t think this tarnishes Thailand’s image very much. If anything it shows that Thai courts won’t put up with this kind of bribery anymore, which is a good step forward.

2 Million Baht are simply not enough, these are peanuts. Talking about inflation. If he had sent 20 Million he would now be happy drinking a beer with his mates.
Dave, To be honest it might actually work out in Thaksin’s favour. He was due in court next week on the land case and these were his 3 senior lawyers on this case. Not they are in jail and possible dis-barred, this case may well now have to be postponed and this “buys” him time.
Simple as that?

Thaksin make a million dollars a day on interest alone on his fortune. 2 million bht is nothing to him.
This 2 million thb bribe is peanuts. Not his style.
I agree that the amount of money is way to small for a bribe of this nature. Strange indeed. Thaksin giving 2 mill. baht to get out of trouble, is like an average man spending a dollar to help stay out of jail. Doesnt add up. Dave - love the new banner at the top!!

The TAT Gov got accused of taking a bribe of 56 million and where is she now?
This is all part of a strategic battle to be in power when the King dies.
There is 40 billion USD to go around when this happens.
Interesting times.
By putting his lawyers in jail and giving back the 2m, at least now the judge can say “well i wasn’t bribed” after he hands down a not guilty verdict.
