GO-GO BAR CLOSURE CONFUSION

If you are just joining us, Thailand has recently completed a Royal cremation ceremony. This news was covered in last week’s Thailand Night Fever.

The initial announcement regarding the 3-day closure of entertainment venues last weekend caused confusion. In Pattaya, a last minute decision stated that go-go bars and other entertainment establishments only had to close on the Saturday. A Pattaya bar owner told me that some go-go bars were open on Friday and Sunday, but others were not. It must have been a last minute scramble to round up enough bar girls for last Friday night. Fortunately, the beer bars and go-go bars in Pattaya were given a reprieve. This was not the case in Bangkok. Most of the beer bars, go-go bars and other entertainment venues in Bangkok, were closed last Friday and Saturday. But, we expected that to be the case.

The biggest confusion arose, when the go-go bars in Soi Cowboy and Patpong were open on Sunday, but most of Nana Plaza was closed. Some go-go bars in Nana Plaza tried to open, but later closed due to lack of go-go girls and customers. Prior to the date, Nana Plaza was issued with a closure letter stating quite clearly 3 days. It is never easy to report what’s open and what’s not, when vital decisions are often left to the very last minute. I can only endeavour to inform you, as accurately as possible with the information I have at the time. In a country like Thailand, things can drastically change in just a few hours. I hate to sound vague, but sometimes nobody can predict what is going to happen in certain circumstances. I think that in Southeast Asia, we have to learn to expect the unexpected. A friend once made a funny comment about living in the third world, “You can take a shower and when you come out of the bathroom, they have a new leader.”

WOODSTOCK BAR CELEBRATE ANNIVERSARY

Woodstock Bar & Grill remains one of Bangkok’s most established rock music bars. The owner Peter would always emphasise the statement, “No boy bands and no crap rap!” Four years ago, Woodstock relocated from Nana Plaza to the upmarket Thonglor district. For those of you who thought that Woodstock had disappeared, you are wrong. I still taste the mouth-watering Woodstock food, when I get the opportunity. And, I am pleased to report it is as delicious as ever. Tonight Friday, November 21st Woodstock celebrates an incredible 24th Anniversary. Happy Hour runs all day until midnight. In addition to the Happy Hour, there will be free snacks from 8:00pm until 10:00pm. Enjoy!

WOODSTOCK’S NEW LOCATION – 44 Thonglor, Soi 13. For more information telephone – 02-715-0202 or visit Woodstock’s website – www.woodstockbkk.com

DATE MATE – THANKSGIVING DAY

Don’t forget guys, I’m your mate with that important date! Here is something to note down… One event that will definitely take place is Thanksgiving Day. The American tradition of Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It falls at the end of the harvest season and it is to express thanks for one’s material and spiritual possessions. It’s a long tradition of celebrating the harvest and giving thanks for a successful bounty of crops. During Thanksgiving, turkey is the main feast, because traditionally it was always the bird in season. Meanwhile in Thailand, we celebrate the bountiful amount of dolly birds in season!

DEAN BARRETT BOOK SIGNING

Here is a reminder that dear ole Dean Barrett will be signing copies of his latest novel. On Thursday, November 27th, Dean will sign copies of “Identity Theft” in the Texas Lone Star Saloon. The event runs from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. Dean is generously offering “Identity Theft” and other titles at below retail price. In the true spirit of Thanksgiving, the Texas Lone Star Saloon offer a FREE Thanksgiving lunch at 3:00pm sharp. (You are advised to be on time to avoid the balloon chasers scoffing the lot!). This is an opportunity to meet one of Thailand’s top acclaimed authors. My congratulations go out to Dean for yet another published novel.

It still never ceases to amaze me. Dean is so busy with all these lovely Thai girls, I wonder how he finds the time to write books. Dean is one of few guys who can boast both a fan club and a harem! I dare say some books are initially written with a very shaky hand… Oh yeh babe, oh yeh babe, oh yeh babe… THE END!

COYOTEES GO-GO BAR DANCE CONTEST

At the end of this month, Coyotees Go-Go Bar host another one of their popular Go-Go Dance Contests. This event is a Sexy Body Dance Contest and the battling babes will be representing 5 go-go bars.
