The talented Thai musicians ‘Collide’ will provide the live entertainment from 20:00 and it promises to be a fun night. Congratulations to The Bull’s Head Pub on achieving sixteen successful years.
ATTENTION! Happy Hour Drinks Till Midnight. Cheers!
URGENT UPDATE – Due to local elections some of the go-go bars, beer bars and nightclubs will be closed in Bangkok on Saturday (28/08/10). Pubs have been told not to serve alcohol, so Saturday is likely to be a dry day in most Bangkok bars. The good news is that Pattaya is open and serving alcohol as usual, so you can plan accordingly. I know that a number of guys have headed down to Pattaya for the weekend.
SOI COWBOY & NANA PLAZA UPDATE - Some go-go bars will be open in Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza tonight (28/08/10). Several bar bosses have decided to open, but not serve alcohol. It is never easy to give accurate updates, because the situation often changes so quickly. A number of bars will close and others will open, but it will probably be a dry day. Several sources are saying that the MIB or Men In Brown will be out checking the bars in Bangkok tonight. Thai Elections and Buddha Days are sometimes taken very seriously. Tonight in Nana Plaza the four Rainbow Bars, Mercury, Mandarin, Spankys and Angelwitch will be open tonight. It will be interesting to see what happens.
Here’s an excellent quality YouTube video of AC/DC performing ‘Livewire’ in London (1976). This was their first TV appearance, with the legendary lead singer Bon Scott and the awesome lead guitarist Angus Young. Now this is real rock and not the rubbish these young punks play today! What puts AC/DC in a league of their own is real rock, tremendous talent and pure passion. You can hear AC/DC songs in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar (Nana Plaza, Bangkok). AC/DC are played religiously in Angelwitch…
An awesome live performance of ‘Layla’ by Eric Clapton. With over 10 million views on YouTube, this is proof that Eric Clapton is seen as one of the greatest singer/guitarists of all time. This is an example of the classic rock music played in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar (Nana Plaza, Bangkok). Turn the volume up and enjoy, as both Eric and his guitar sing!
You could say that Cactus Go-Go Bar in Soi Cowboy has real character. Well, the guy that runs Cactus Bar is definitely a real character! Cactus John owns and operates one of those bars that can only be described as very different from the norm. Native American John, serves up some awesome American home style cooking. Along with his wacky charisma and wicked sense of humour, ole Cactus John has attracted a cult following. If you do visit Cactus Bar in Soi Cowboy, please pass on kind regards from Dave The Rave. Cheers!

Guinness Draught Beer has returned to Chequers Pub and so, the wait is over. The supply of Guinness is imported directly from Ireland and therefore those wishing to increase their iron intake are in luck. Of course, being imported from across the world Guinness will naturally cost you more, because it is not a local brew. Chequers Pub had to wait a while to have a Guinness pump installed, but the favourite black is back! Furthermore, until August 10th Chequers Pub are running a special promotion. Guinness is ONLY 170 baht per pint.
Chequers Pub is located just past Dynasty Inn on Soi Nana in Bangkok. They show a wide range of live sports and are renowned for their excellent traditional pub grub. This week I tried one of the specials, which was beef and beer stew. The beef was very tender and tasty, it was accompanied by a Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Yummy!
If you ever wanted to meet a Bangkok based acclaimed author, then you are in luck. If you want to buy a novel and have it signed by an acclaimed author, then you will be double lucky. If you would like a FREE lunch and discount on the book, then you are triple lucky. My good friend Dean Barrett has published his latest novel and is hosting a book signing. ‘Permanent Damage’ the sequel to Skytrain to Murder, is on sale in Thailand’s book stores now. The book signing will be, as always, at the Texas Lone Star Saloon, Washington Square (Sukhumvit Soi 22, Bangkok). As usual, it will be from 14:30 to 16:30 hours this Saturday afternoon. And, of course, the lovely ladies of the Lone Star Saloon will be there to fulfill your every desire and cater to your every need. Dean commented, ‘Ladies drinks are cheap, so please buy them one, or three with your free meal’. Furthermore, in book stores Permanent Damage will cost you 450 baht. At the signing it will ONLY cost you 300 baht. Despite the fact that Dean is a talented writer, he really is a smashing guy and well worth meeting. I will be there, so I hope to see you then. Cheers!
Saturday, August 7th, FREE lunch at 15:00 hours sharp!
Despite what some people may say about Thailand, there is an increase in tourist traffic. Both the roads and the pavements in Bangkok now have busier traffic. The number of foreign arrivals into Bangkok is on the rise. (more…)
Who are Rammstein? It was Matt, the co-owner of the two Angelwitch Go-Go Bars, who introduced the German rock band Rammstein to Thailand. Rammstein are a world famous heavy rock band and their inimitable musical style is played religiously in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar in Nana Plaza on a nightly basis.
Below is an HD YouTube video of Rammstein performing the song ‘Rammstein’ live (Volkerball Concert). Incidentally, an exciting new Angelwitch Showgirl (Nana Plaza, Bangkok), performs an acrobatic solo show to this song. If you were unsure about the inspiration and origins of the rock music in Angelwitch, now you know. Enjoy!

SPORTS SCHEDULE – The landlord of Chequers Pub has got it up early this week and so, Nick will be bashing his balls around. Settle down! Jack Nicholson’s lookalike has gone to Hua Hin to play golf. Well, it is supposed to be a golf trip, but it is more likely to be a busman’s holiday with some golf as a distraction! Joking apart, Nick has worked flat out every day since Songkran and therefore, definitely deserves a holiday. Nick will be back in Chequers Pub on Friday.
CHEQUERS OUT – Chequers Pub is located just passed Dynasty Inn on Soi Nana in Bangkok. Please tell Nick that Dave The Rave recommended Chequers Pub. Thanks! (more…)
