My first impression of Bangkok was one of absolute bewilderment. Taking in this city of contrasts was proving to be very challenging. My initial reaction was to feel numbed from head to foot from culture shock. Bangkok - one city, one million confusions. My senses were paralyzed from the very first moment I met Bangkok face to face; the tremendous noise, dreadful air pollution, appalling traffic, horrendous heat and total chaos. Bangkok was certainly living up to its reputation of having the world’s worst traffic congestion and lowest oxygen count. If Bangkok was anything to go by, Thailand and I had certainly not fallen in love at first sight. (more…)
The time has come and Halloween is approaching. It is a bit early (not until October 31st), but I want to remind you, so you don’t miss all the scary fun. Those ghastly ghosts and grisly ghouls are joining other creatures of the night for Halloween in Thailand. Forget about the doom and gloom in Farangland and enjoy a Halloween Party in the Land Of Sanook! It is time for all the big boys and girls to come out to play. So guys and gals, make sure you are in the right place at the right time. Halloween in Thailand is unrivalled across the globe for adult fun factor. But, make sure to check that you are with a lady of the night and not a creature of the night. We want to be performing orgasms not exorcisms! (more…)
It is a fact that growing numbers of foreigners are booking flights to Thailand. However, just how many of these people choose to visit Pattaya is another matter. The jury is still out regarding any predictions for a sensational season in the seaside resort of Pattaya. Unfortunately, the high season in Pattaya is shorter than it used to be. Nowadays, the high season might not arrive until December and then finish before the end of January. Let’s hope for all concerned that it is a lengthy and prosperous high season down in Pleasure Playground. (more…)
Builders have been working around the clock to get the refurbishment finished in Spankys. A brand new section of sofa seats not only makes it more comfortable, but it has increased the seating capacity. It is a fact that Spankys is about 100% more popular now than when the Iranian owned it. (more…)
There are early indications that the forthcoming high season in Nana Plaza is likely to be better than expected. Well, this at least applies to the most popular go-go bars. Some go-go bars in Nana Plaza are very busy for the beginning of October. For instance, last Friday night was one of the busiest nights in Angelwitch for the entire year. The show ‘n’ go-go bars are continuing to do a brisk trade at weekends. The main show bars in Nana Plaza are, Angelwitch, Spankys and Hollywood Carousel. (more…)
Tough times are facing the nightlife scene in Thailand, as the majority of bars, go-go bars and nightclubs are feeling the pinch in one way or another. There are fewer foreign visitors frequenting Thailand’s nightlife scene than previous years and less bar girls in Bangkok’s multitude of bars. Out of Thailand’s main nightlife regions, sections of Pattaya, Koh Samui, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai appear to be hit hard by the downturn. (more…)
The popular nightspot Spice Club has been renamed Climax. Word is that taxi drivers were taking Spice customers to Spicy instead. I think it was wise to change the name of the club in this case. What with Spice, Spicy and Bossy, it was getting confusing for all concerned. To celebrate the rebirth there is a Climax Party this Tuesday, September 29th. There will be live music, international DJs, coyote showgirls and your first drink is free. Spice it up all you want, but we would sooner have a climax! (more…)
Below are Youtube videos from the British TV series ‘Big Trouble In Tourist Thailand’ filmed for Bravo Channel. The videos that are shown will hopefully raise awareness for all foreigners about Thailand… (more…)
As I am typing this, the heavens have opened up and it is hammering it down with silvery bullets. Us Bangkokians are under heavy fire! Currently, here in Bangkok there is frequent heavy rainfall, whereas Pattaya has been very fortunate in terms of the weather. If you compare the climate in Bangkok to Pattaya, you might think you are in another country. This is a blessing in disguise for a seaside town, which has suffered a significant drop in foreign visitors. So far so good, Pattaya is high and dry! (more…)

Royal City Avenue or ‘RCA’ is a popular little strip for Thais and foreigners alike to party the night away. If you agree to buy a bottle of whisky, you will receive free entrance to the clubs. If you don’t manage to finish the bottle that night, most clubs will reserve your bottle for another time. If you are not into doing the hip-hop bop, some clubs provide live music as an alternative. Live bands perform both Thai and Western songs. (more…)
Thai authorities are continuing to order beer bars, go-go bars and nightclubs in Pattaya to close at 3:00am sharp. Nobody seems to know why this nightlife crackdown has been imposed and how long it will last. During a critical time for Pattaya’s nightlife scene, this harsh decision is a severe blow. What on earth the Thai authorities think they will achieve is totally beyond disgruntled bar and nightclub owners. Meanwhile, late night revellers are left in a state of shock and bemusement. It’s remarkable to think that Bangkok currently offers better late night options than Pattaya. The critical point is that Bangkok does not need to rely upon late night party-goers, but for Pattaya it is absolutely essential. The good news is that most of these clampdowns don’t last very long.

PATTAYA NEWSFLASH - A number of bars are opening in Pattaya tonight. Later in the evening booze will be flowing. The official time to serve alcohol is from midnight, according to the Thai government. With the go-go bars and discos closing much later in Pattaya, it does make sense to open tonight. You never know, the booze might be freely flowing before midnight. My suggestion is that you could always commence drinking in a pub first. Bangkok is not so lucky. In fact, things are taken to extremes with alcohol sections in Supermarkets completely sealed off like a crime scene.
Nana Plaza in Bangkok tried to open on Tuesday, July 7th, but was promptly closed before 7:00pm. Some bar owners were prepared to take a gamble on being allowed to open over the two Buddha Days. Ironically, the boys in brown who gave the green light the night previously, then suddenly changed it to a red light. What a shambles!
PATTAYA GO-GO BARS - Down in Pleasure Playground it’s a mixed bunch. Some bar owners are saying they will close, whilst other bar owners are saying they will try to open, but not serve alcohol. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.
UPDATE - Note that certain pubs across Thailand are open and serving alcohol. Also, alcohol is available in hotels and restaurants. That’s the latest from the bizarre world of Thailand.
