Dollhouse Opens XXX VIP Lounge

Wednesday, September 20th, 2017

The Dollhouse Go-Go Bar down in Sin City, otherwise known as Pattaya are opening a XXX Vip Lounge. The concept is based upon agogo meets gentlemen’s club, all rolled into one. Knowing these guys there will be a few surprises too.

This Friday, September 22nd is the Soft Opening of the XXX VIP Lounge, which promises to provide plenty of pampering and pleasure! This is a format the Thailand’s nightlife scene should have adopted many years ago.

The concept is to combine the best of East and West, with the raunchy bump ‘n’ grind of Thai gogo dancers and the Western strip club format. The modern day gentlemen’s clubs partly do this, but not entirely.

Daves Raves – I wish The Dollhouse all the best for endeavouring to introduce something fresh to the gogo bar scene in Pattaya.

The Dollhouse is located down Soi 15 Walking Street.

Strong Tropical Storm Lashes Phuket

Saturday, September 16th, 2017

Phuket has been hit hard by a fierce tropical storm that has caused flash floods and landslides. As a result of the landslides, one construction site of nine villas has collapsed, but no deaths, or injuries were reported.

Some parts of Phuket are flooded so deep, they are not accessible by vehicles. Those who needed to cross certain parts of the popular beach resort, were forced to improvise by using boats and jet skis.

PATONG POLICE STATION PHUKET – PHOTO BY THE NATION

Phuket Police Officers were forced to move upstairs at Patong Police Station, because flood water rose so high inside the building.

Typhoon Doksuri that recently battered Vietnam is now sweeping across Northern Thailand. A severe weather warning is issued to other beach resorts and cities across Thailand to brace for the storm.

Fortunately, Bangkok and Pattaya have remained unaffected so far.

Best Bang-For-Baht Breakfast

Monday, September 11th, 2017

Foodland Supermarket

Foodland is a superb value for money supermarket chain. There are branches in both Bangkok and Pattaya that are open 24 hours. They stock a wide range of products at reasonable prices, and they even have a pharmacy section.

Inside each Foodland Supermarket there is a Took Lae Dee Restaurant. The literal translation of Took Lae Dee is “cheap and good” which is a very accurate description. You know the food is both cheap and good, when you see so many locals eating at these Thai style diners.

I still can’t believe that Bangkok is such a huge city and yet, there is a definite lack of 24 hour restaurants. Thankfully, we’ve got Took Lae Dee!

The American Breakfast must be the best bang-for-baht you can possibly get anywhere in Thailand. It costs just 79 baht for 2 Eggs, Ham or Sausage, Toast, Butter, Preserves, Orange or Pineapple Juice, plus Tea or Coffee. If you hit it at Happy Hour (05:30-09:00) the American Breakfast is only 62 baht.

In Bangkok, I prefer the Took Lae Dee branches on Sukhumvit Soi 16 and in Patpong Soi 2, because both restaurants have tables to sit comfortably. However, the Took Lae Dee Restaurant on Sukhumvit soi 5 gets very crowded and there are no tables. Also, service can be very slow compared to the other branches, so patience is definitely needed sometimes.

As an added bonus, drinking water is free with refills as well. This will be like paradise to the Cheap Charlie Clan!

The menu has a selection of Thai, Asian and Western dishes, including the tasty Chinese Roast Pork. The Chicken Fried Rice is delicious and as cheap as chips. Took Lae Dee really takes some beating and being open 24 hours, this gives Foodland a great advantage over competitors.

Daves Raves – If you don’t like waiting, walk inside the supermarket and do your shopping. By the time you get back your food will be ready. You can eat in, or take it home along with your shopping. Hey, that’s two jobs done in one!

Bangkok Bank Exchange Rates

Wednesday, September 6th, 2017

Today I decided to check Thailand’s Foreign Exchange Rates at Bangkok Bank. Well, it certainly does not look pretty for some nations!

While the American dollar has remained consistent for years, it is not by any means holding a strong stance against the baht. It just sits there, as it has done for ages.

The British pound has fallen the most out of the world’s main currencies, whereas it was previously strong. In general, the piss poor pound has caused a lot of anguish for Brits travelling abroad to many countries.

Meanwhile, the Euro has continued to strengthen against the baht. It sits right up the backside of the British pound. Only a few baht separates the two rival currencies.

Here are today’s Buying Rates announced by Bangkok Bank…

USD = 32.74 (America $50-100)

EUR = 38.89 (Euro Zone)

GBP = 42.46 (United Kingdom)

AUD = 25.80 (Australia)

JPY = 29.86 (Japan)

The Euro Hits Record High

Friday, September 1st, 2017

The euro has hit $1.20 for the first time since January 2015 as the prospect of a US interest rate rise recedes.

The economic damage caused by “Hurricane Harvey” has led financial analysts to believe the US central bank will not want to risk curbing economic growth.

American experts say, a rise in interest rates tends to draw investors to a currency, taking advantage of the higher returns.

Meanwhile, the euro has itself been gaining against a range of currencies, as the economy improves in the eurozone.

Against the dollar, the euro has risen by almost 15% so far this year. In addition, the euro continues to strengthen against the UK pound and the Thai baht.

I am no expert, but it might be time to buy some euros.

Thailand Weather Warning

Being English, I guess I have that stereotypical obsession for the weather. It’s that time of year again, when the heavens open up and down comes the rain. The Thai authorities are telling us not to ignore flood warnings, especially in certain provinces, where flash floods can and do occur.

MONSOON SEASON IN THAILAND 2017

The rain in Thailand comes down suddenly and within minutes the roads can start to flood. If you ever get caught unprepared in a heavy downpour, you can buy an umbrella and/or a raincoat from the numerous 7 Eleven shops. Also, make sure during the rainy season you have suitable footwear.

Just be prepared, because the worst of the torrential rain is yet to come. The photo below depicts how Thai street vendors protect themselves and their goods against the elements. Rain does not stop play!

Cover Your What?

Saturday, May 13th, 2017

Well it’s been one hell of a week!  Which culminated with my entire website going on the Fritz on Friday night. Some frantic calls to the hosting provider and a few other people, and we managed to get the old girl back up again.

In this day an age, websites need updating technically, as well as regular content being posted. I am not a technical guy I just know the basics. But, me and the old girl have been through so much together since 2006 and I would be mortified if anything happened to my ole bird! 🙂

THE ALL NEW HILLARY 1 BAR (RAJAH COMPLEX SOI NANA)

Anyway, I remember years ago in England, when I was a nightclub doorman, this massive Bentley rolled up one day. My mate nudged me and said, ‘Here that’s Sheikh Yamani,’  and I replied a bit too loud, ‘Shake your what?’

Well it happened it again the other day when Joe was telling me about the new event he has planned for the end of May at the Black Pagoda, which is called ‘Cover Your Stones’  and I blurted out, ‘Cover your what?’

The event Joe was telling me about should be good  because it’s two of Bangkok’s most famous cover bands;  the Bangkok Beatles and Sticky Fingers, going head-to-head at the Black Pagoda.

I am looking forward to this, as I have seen the Sticky Fingers at Clubhouse Sports Bar and I have to say they are very good. I love The Rolling Stones songs and this promises to be a great night.  The video of the last live music event they did at the Black Pagoda looks like it went very well.

For anyone interested in this event it’s on Saturday 27th March from 9:00 PM at the Black Pagoda, Patpong 2 – tickets can be purchased on the day, or in advance on Oneplace. You can also join the Facebook event

There were a couple of big events over the past week, one was the 4 Year Anniversary at Insanity Nightclub.  That was on Thursday and I had every intention of going, but I got totally waylaid at the other event, which was the opening of the new Hillary 1 at Rajah Complex on Soi Nana.

Although I was not there my good mate Toby was about and he said it was a great night at Insanity Nightclub. But, I doubt if he can remember all of it. Toby did  manage to capture this video footage, which looks like he had slightly more interesting evening than me at Hillary’s. However, I have to say I was very impressed with the new venue and the refurbishment job is superb. Mind you, I thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy of several red hot promo dolly birds. There were some interesting guests, including some of the bar owners from Nana Plaza.

More news and tittle tattle soon. Cheers!

FRIDAY NIGHT SPECIALS

Friday, July 8th, 2016

TGI Friday! Most bar and club owners in Bangkok will be glad to see the back of the Euro Cup, as whilst great for European football enthusiasts, these events combined with heavy rain can only mean one thing – slow business.

Soi Cowboy and Soi Nana seem to have had a few reasonable days trade this past week and the 3rd year anniversary party at Mercury Bar in Nana Plaza was a big success, thanks to everyone who showed up.  On Patpong, it’s been another story with bars noticeably quiet over the last couple of weeks.  No doubt they will be breathing a big sigh of relief  when the final passes this Saturday.

For all of us watching the pennies, there are a couple of good deals about this weekend – Stumble Inn on Soi Nana has a  daytime (9:00 AM-6:00 PM) special of 100 baht pints of Chang and Tiger Beer.

stumple inn bangkok

I notice that Strip on Patpong 2 is also offering 99 baht on all beers all night on Fridays, together with a Sexy Ripped Jeans Party.  I thought they all wore tight tiny jeans anyway?  When you consider some bars now charge as much as 200 baht for a beer, this is a great drinks deal. I can vouch for both venues having good service, attractive girls and friendly managers.  In the case of The Strip the manager always looks after regulars and will often give customers a free drink. Awesome!

EQ Late Night Club is having a special Euro Cup Final Party on Saturday night and that might be interesting, as they now have pool tables and flat screen TV’s.  It’s a nice atmosphere and may well be a good place to watch the final.

New name new deal at EQ

Friday, January 15th, 2016

Equality hasn’t changed it’s name, it’s just shortened it to EQ and now calls itself a Late Night Club – which does sound a bit better than ’embracing sexuality’.  Although I am all for embracing sexuality myself, especially after a few pints!

Now that brings me to subject of this post which is the new deal at the new enhanced EQ.  The Hot new deal, which starts tonight,  is you pay a 200 THB entry charge and you get an OPEN BAR, yes that’s right an open bar, all you can drink, from 11pm to 1am.

Now obviously if you can only drink one beer in two hours, well apart from dragging the chain, you probably didn’t win or lose much but if you knock back a few (don’t look at me!) well then this has to be the best deal in town by a Bangkok mile!

eq late night club

                 Apparently the open bar is limited to standard (house pour) and singha,  if you grab one of these flyers from the girls on the street you get an EXTRA shot after 1am

  A top gun marketing team means the qual at EQ in terms of girls should definitely improve. We will be watching with interest as I have always believed in the right hands this club has great potential.

The Best of Dave the Rave is yet to come.

Saturday, December 12th, 2015

I apologise for the lack of posting recently but I have been held up in hospital with some health ‘issues’.

The doctor keeps telling me I have got to exercise more.  “Exercise, ex..er..cise, ex…ar..cise” he says,  but all I hear is “eggs are sides”…for BACON!”

The good news is I should be back on my feet again by crimbo – just in time for a nice Turkey dinner.

this is how christmas should look!

lets face it this is how Christmas should look

Talk of the town around bar owners this month I hear has been how quiet it is this first half of December, however I do remind people that there is always a lull in early December and you can’t write December off until the fat lady sings at the end of the month.

I am predicting a very busy New Year in Nana especially with the opening of new venues  such as the Equality Nightclub, which I have heard has an open bar every Thursday night!? Readers please confirm..

Looking forward to seeing everyone around Nana Plaza as soon as I am on my feet again.

Pic of the Week and DJ Kofty

Friday, October 9th, 2015

DJ Kofty has been on the decks since the 1970’s  and tonight puts in a rare appearance at the Black Pagoda.  The Black Pagoda is located on Patpong Soi 2  opposite Foodland.  The gig starts and 10pm and finishes at 3am and it should be good.  If you need a sexy girl on your lap while you marinade a few ice cubes, we suggest you go early.

Ok that’s the news for the day, now pic of the week, here are some beach bums hanging out at the Strip on Patpong 2.

If you are dying to see the fronts you better get down there…
