PATTAYA – PLEASURE PLAYGROUND

It is a fact that growing numbers of foreigners are booking flights to Thailand.  However, just how many of these people choose to visit Pattaya is another matter.  The jury is still out regarding any predictions for a sensational season in the seaside resort of Pattaya.  Unfortunately, the high season in Pattaya is shorter than it used to be.  Nowadays, the high season might not arrive until December and then finish before the end of January.  Let’s hope for all concerned that it is a lengthy and prosperous high season down in Pleasure Playground. Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Dave The Rave joins the popular www.twitter.com and I have definitely caused a titter on twitter! After only 2 days I’ve done some damage – loads of posts and a load of followers. Actually, I think it is fun. Baron Bonk recommended that I join and I am enjoying Twitter. However, I don’t know if I can keep up the frenetic pace. Only time will tell.

I try to concentrate on my own website (WordPress blog), so I don’t join Facebook, MySpace, etc., etc… However, I would recommend giving Twitter a try. I hope to see you Twittering on Twitter soon. Don’t be shy give it a try! Join www.twitter.com and become one of my followers. On Twitter I feature fresh Thailand nightlife news daily.

BANGKOK VS PATTAYA GO-GO DANCE CONTEST

Coyotees Go-Go Bar in Soi Marine Plaza are hosting a 3-Day Party COYOTEES GO-GO BAR PATTAYAthis weekend. The special 3-day event is scheduled on January 23rd, 24th and 25th. Note that 10 stunning Bangkok supermodels have been hired especially for a Bangkok VS Pattaya Go-Go Dance Bonanza. The 10 Bangkok supermodels are Thailand Penthouse magazine models and they will be available for ‘cash ‘n’ carry. The Go-Go Dance Contest will be held this Sunday, January 25th. I must stress that Coyotees Go-Go Dance Contests are very popular, so make sure that you get a good seat. My advice is to arrive no later than 10:00pm. Enjoy!

THE MOST POPULAR GO-GO BARS IN PATTAYA

HAPPY GO-GO BAR PATTAYATo define what I mean by ‘popular’ for you, I have selected the go-go bars that attract the most customers and revenue. Currently, the top two  go-go bars in Pattaya are Angelwitch and Happy. However, in stark contrast some go-go bars in Pattaya are really struggling. The go-go girls in Pattaya are even more nomadic than normal. Some go-go dancers and showgirls are constantly seeking greener pastures. In certain go-go bars, the dolly birds are moving around so much it makes everybody dizzy! It is supposed to be high season, but I dare say that some go-go bars in Pattaya are already facing tough times. To end on a brighter note, it is a great time to visit Pattaya. The boy-to-girl ratio is very much in the favour of the lads. Happy hunting!

AFTER DARK ASIA PUBLICATIONS

AFTER DARK ASIA VOLUME 9

Things seem to be going quite smoothly for the After Dark Asia team. The magazines are published on time and the quality just keeps getting better. The After Dark Asia 2009 Calendar has sold very well. (By the way, the 2009 calendar is still available). Although Pattaya go-go girls dominate the 2009 calendar, it does feature Bangkok go-go girls from Bacarra in Soi Cowboy, and Angelwitch in Nana Plaza. If you think all of the HOT Thai girls are in Pattaya, you had better think again! The main reason for a lack of Bangkok go-go girls in magazines, calendars and websites, is that they don’t want to lose their ‘sponsors,’ or their mobile money machines. Bangkok bar girls are much more professional than their Pattaya sisters. Now you know!

CHINESE NEW YEAR IN PATTAYA

Soon there will be dragons roaming along Walking Street and I’m not talking about nasty old women! Don’t be alarmed because it is Chinese New Year January 26-28th. During this period in Thailand, you will see plenty of ‘Jeen-Thai’ or ethnic Chinese-Thai people celebrate the ‘Year of the Ox.’ You will also see the dragon dance accompanied by clashing symbols and other musical instruments on Walking Street this Monday, January 26th. This is a good opportunity for photographers’ seeking Asian cultural snapshots. Enjoy!

GO-GO BAR CLOSURE CONFUSION

If you are just joining us, Thailand has recently completed a Royal cremation ceremony. This news was covered in last week’s Thailand Night Fever.

The initial announcement regarding the 3-day closure of entertainment venues last weekend caused confusion. In Pattaya, a last minute decision stated that go-go bars and other entertainment establishments only had to close on the Saturday. A Pattaya bar owner told me that some go-go bars were open on Friday and Sunday, but others were not. It must have been a last minute scramble to round up enough bar girls for last Friday night. Fortunately, the beer bars and go-go bars in Pattaya were given a reprieve. This was not the case in Bangkok. Most of the beer bars, go-go bars and other entertainment venues in Bangkok, were closed last Friday and Saturday. But, we expected that to be the case. (more…)

DAVE’S NIGHTSEEING TOURS – SUNRISE TO SOI COWBOY

SOI COWBOY - BANGKOK - THAILAND 007

For some time now, my friend Nick has wanted to hit the town with me.  Nick is currently based in Cambodia as a mine clearance specialist.  Obviously, any day off from the minefields would be relaxing, but I wanted to introduce Nick to some places that he has not visited before.  I took a night off from my duties in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar and I looked forward to the night ahead.  I wasn’t feeling 100% but I was determined to meet Nick and spend some quality time with a good friend.  Nick was about to experience one of my “nightseeing tours” and he seemed keen enough.  We arranged to meet at Sunrise Tacos Mexican Grill, which is located in the Leader Price Complex.  (For those not familiar with the Leader Price Complex, it is right next to Time Square Building between Sukhumvit, Soi 12 and Soi 14).  Several months ago, the owners of Sunrise Tacos decided to take over a vacant space directly opposite their shop.  At first, I was not sure what Greg Lange was intending to do with two Sunrise Tacos shops.  Was Greg intending to open two branches of Sunrise Tacos in the same complex?  This all became very clear when Greg explained the concept to me.  The original Sunrise Tacos is a small place, and it now provides a 24 hour takeaway and delivery service.  The new, larger premise has become a cosy restaurant that is stylishly designed and furbished.  The credit for the interior design goes to Mrs Lange.  Greg’s wife Nui has done a superb job! CELEBRATING ST. PATRICK’S DAY IN BANGKOK (PART ONE)

ANGELWITCH SHOWGIRLS IN NANA PLAZA - BANGKOK - THAILANDToday is a special Monday, because it is St. Patrick’s Day.  For the uninitiated, St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.  St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide, but it is a particularly HUGE celebration in America… As I walked inside, I surveyed the scene and within a few seconds, I spotted my friend Rob.  We had arranged to meet at Bully’s Pub, which is located next to the JW Marriott Hotel on Sukhumvit Road.  There was a large table available, so we sat down and soaked up the relaxing atmosphere.  Previously, this place was nothing more than a mere shell, but the new owner ET has done a terrific job of improving it.  We can forget those early days, because Bully’s Pub is now established as one of the most popular pubs in Bangkok.  And, I was about to find out why.  Although it was only 6:00pm, already a crowd was starting to build.  Bully’s Pub draws large crowds and even though it is a large pub, it fills up at peak trading hours. CHALLENGING WEEK FOR DAVE THE RAVE

FLYING TO BANGKOK THAILANDThis passed week has been very hectic.  Unfortunately, my wife’s Grandmother (Yai in Thai) passed away.  She was a very sweet old lady of 84 years old (RIP Yai).  My wife was told to return home quickly and at least she was able to see Yai before she passed away.  I could not go to pay my respects to Yai, because I had to take care of things in Bangkok.  I have been busy being both dog sitter and housekeeper!  Also, I had to run Angelwitch every night because Matt was in Germany visiting his family.  This week’s “Thailand Night Fever” might be a bit shorter than usual.  So, if it’s short and sweet, I hope you find it an interesting read…  (more…)

SMOKING BAN IN A STATE OF CONFUSION

SOI COWBOY - BANGKOK - THAILAND - 05With some bars allowing smoking and other bars not, it does make the smoking ban look like a farce.  There are establishments where the so-called smoking ban has not been enforced whatsoever.  Once again, go-go bars are at the centre of the controversy.  In the Lumpini area (lower Sukhumvit Road), the Hotels and restaurants have been told they must enforce the smoking ban, but some bars in Nana Plaza are currently exempt.  In stark contrast, further along Sukhumvit Road, the bars in Soi Cowboy have been told to comply to the new law.  Down in Pattaya, a number of the go-go bar owners are allowing smoking, but they have been told to be discrete.  Word from Thai sources is that the smoking ban will be enforced eventually, but currently there is a grace period.  Understand that if you can!  Thailand’s Ministry Of Health (rather than the police) will apparently be checking to see who is complying to the smoking ban.  After May 31st, 2008 all hotels and public establishments must comply to the smoking ban, or face a 20,000 Baht fine.  So far, it looks like the ban has gone up in a cloud of smoke.  Meanwhile folks, it’s just another moment in the Land Of Make-Believe.
