You could say that Cactus Go-Go Bar in Soi Cowboy has real character. Well, the guy that runs Cactus Bar is definitely a real character! Cactus John owns and operates one of those bars that can only be described as very different from the norm. Native American John, serves up some awesome American home style cooking. Along with his wacky charisma and wicked sense of humour, ole Cactus John has attracted a cult following. If you do visit Cactus Bar in Soi Cowboy, please pass on kind regards from Dave The Rave. BANGKOK BOUNCES BACK

SPORTS SCHEDULE – The landlord of Chequers Pub has got it up early this week and so, Nick will be bashing his balls around. Settle down! Jack Nicholson’s lookalike has gone to Hua Hin to play golf. Well, it is supposed to be a golf trip, but it is more likely to be a busman’s holiday with some golf as a distraction! Joking apart, Nick has worked flat out every day since Songkran and therefore, definitely deserves a holiday. Nick will be back in Chequers Pub on Friday.

SOI COWBOY – LITTLE LAS VEGAS
I have visited Soi Cowboy several times in recent weeks. Despite the hype from some people, it was not that busy in the majority of go-go bars. In fact, Marc who is the manager of Dollhouse told me last night, bar trade in Soi Cowboy slowed down a lot these past few weeks. Thailand Tonight is running late and will be online tomorrow 17/06/2010 at around 18:00 Thai time. It has been a hectic week for Dave The Rave with added pressure from the aftermath of the violence in Bangkok. Currently, it is a testing time for many of us here in Thailand.

DAVE THE RAVE - GO-GO GURU
It was several hours after midnight in a sleepy, rural town in England. Nightfall had caste his inky black cloak over the Midlands in the United Kingdom. In those days it was known as Great Britain. The deathly still of night stirred ever so slightly, with the crisp air of spring. Then it happened. A certain Dave The Rave entered the world in the sexy sixties. The world would never quite be the same again… Join me if you can tonight 30/04/2010 in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar in Nana Plaza. I have survived another year as the Go-Go Guru in the neon jungles of Bangkok. I am 47 today and edging closer to the BIG five zero. I am not quite sure if I should be celebrating, or commiserating!

A strange thing happened to Dave The Rave this week. Just as I was getting back into the swing of things, I find myself lost in cyberspace. Certain people including myself, could not access this website from Thailand. This is very frustrating, especially when I had just announced that I would be publishing my bi-weekly column on Sundays and Wednesdays. I had no control over the circumstances, but I do hope there was no inconvenience on your part. Normal service will be resumed very soon. Cheers!

Royal City Avenue or ‘RCA’ is a popular little strip for Thais and foreigners alike to party the night away. If you agree to buy a bottle of whisky, you will receive free entrance to the clubs. If you don’t manage to finish the bottle that night, most clubs will reserve your bottle for another time. If you are not into doing the hip-hop bop, some clubs provide live music as an alternative. - THAILAND NIGHTLIFE NEWSFLASH – Bars in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket are ‘most likely’ to close on July 7th (Asarnha Bucha Day) and July 8th (Buddhists Lent). #
- THAILAND TODAY - The Thai PM has stated that all bars, discos and other entertainment venues, are not to sell alcohol during all Buddha Days. This is no longer a request, it’s a demand. #
- SWEET DREAMS – Hollywood Inn (Nana Plaza) is now open. The immaculately furbished rooms are 400 baht short time and 1,000 baht all night. Each room has an en suite bathroom and a flat TV screen. Very stylish!#
- THAILAND TODAY – Be aware that most banks, bars and other businesses will be closed for a public holiday until July 9th. Therefore, plan accordingly. #
