Nowadays, taking a late night stroll down lower Sukhumvit Road is very different to what it used to be years ago. A continuous row of makeshift mobile bars set up shop after midnight along lower Sukhumvit, right on the roadside. The pavement pubs stretch from Sukhumvit Soi 3/1, right along towards Sukhumvit Soi 19. Some of the pavement pubs sell booze from around midnight until cockcrow. Most of the pavement pubs charge 80 baht for a standard drink, which is reasonable enough. However, this concrete jungle is a dodgy place, with various creatures of the night on the prowl. (more…)
NANA PLAZA UPDATE - The temporary crackdown on ’showing’ in Nana Plaza has been lifted on January 20th. At least 10 go-go bars in Nana Plaza have reverted back to mono bikinis. Furthermore, even a few go-go bars have gone from swim suits to birthday suits. Hooray!
Nana Plaza has gone through several fazes of change over the past decade, or so. Even today, the changes in Nana Plaza continue. Currently, there is an issue regarding ’showing’ in the go-go bars that has not been resolved. The majority of go-go bars are left in limbo and are waiting on a decision from the mysterious MIB (Men In Brown). Last night the go-go girls in the majority of bars were dancing in bikinis. However, the permission to ’show’ again from the MIB will be granted very soon. Nobody seems to know the actual reason for this, except that it is an MIB (Men In Brown) issue of some kind. If you think ‘teatime’ and power play, you are most probably heading in the right direction. It is all rather confusing, but it is part of the ‘Amazing Thailand’ landscape, where there is always something happening. (more…)
We all keep reading about the doom and gloom in Farangland and there is just no escaping it. Perhaps circumstances make it very difficult for you to experience the Thai go-go bars in Bangkok and Pattaya. Well don’t despair, because if you can’t come to see the sexy Thai go-go girls, then I will bring them to you. Here are hot and sexy go-go dancers from Kitten Club in Pattaya. These Thai go-go girls really dance. Enjoy!
Recently, there is a noticeable increase in visitors to Nana Plaza and this past weekend saw some go-go bars packed to capacity with customers. One reason is due to a five-day national holiday in Japan. The three main Rainbow Bars, or ‘Jap Traps’ in Nana Plaza namely; Rainbow 1, Rainbow 2 and Rainbow 4 were brimming with Japanese customers. I know I have a laugh at their expense, but the Japanese are usually no trouble at all as paying punters. They never seem to complain, never get aggressive and rarely cause trouble. In terms of behaviour and generosity, the Japanese are ideal customers for the go-go bars and not surprisingly, very popular with Thai bar girls. (more…)
It is always important to stoke up your engine, before a bout of ‘Friday Night Fever’ in Thailand. A variety of bars and pubs in Bangkok, offer a complimentary buffet to get Friday night off to a good start. This week I feature Soi 8 Pub on the left-hand side, as you enter Sukhumvit Soi 8. In my opinion, Soi 8 Pub is a serious contender for best pub in Bangkok. Soi 8 Pub has a variety of food available, which by far exceeds the pub grub found elsewhere. Some of the dishes make it an excellent ‘meal deal’ by any standards. (more…)
Coyotees Go-Go Bar in Soi Marine Plaza are hosting a 3-Day Party this weekend. The special 3-day event is scheduled on January 23rd, 24th and 25th. Note that 10 stunning Bangkok supermodels have been hired especially for a Bangkok VS Pattaya Go-Go Dance Bonanza. The 10 Bangkok supermodels are Thailand Penthouse magazine models and they will be available for ‘cash ‘n’ carry. The Go-Go Dance Contest will be held this Sunday, January 25th. I must stress that Coyotees Go-Go Dance Contests are very popular, so make sure that you get a good seat. My advice is to arrive no later than 10:00pm. Enjoy!
THE MOST POPULAR GO-GO BARS IN PATTAYA
To define what I mean by ‘popular’ for you, I have selected the go-go bars that attract the most customers and revenue. Currently, the top two go-go bars in Pattaya are Angelwitch and Happy. However, in stark contrast some go-go bars in Pattaya are really struggling. The go-go girls in Pattaya are even more nomadic than normal. Some go-go dancers and showgirls are constantly seeking greener pastures. In certain go-go bars, the dolly birds are moving around so much it makes everybody dizzy! It is supposed to be high season, but I dare say that some go-go bars in Pattaya are already facing tough times. To end on a brighter note, it is a great time to visit Pattaya. The boy-to-girl ratio is very much in the favour of the lads. Happy hunting!
AFTER DARK ASIA PUBLICATIONS
Things seem to be going quite smoothly for the After Dark Asia team. The magazines are published on time and the quality just keeps getting better. The After Dark Asia 2009 Calendar has sold very well. (By the way, the 2009 calendar is still available). Although Pattaya go-go girls dominate the 2009 calendar, it does feature Bangkok go-go girls from Bacarra in Soi Cowboy, and Angelwitch in Nana Plaza. If you think all of the HOT Thai girls are in Pattaya, you had better think again! The main reason for a lack of Bangkok go-go girls in magazines, calendars and websites, is that they don’t want to lose their ‘sponsors,’ or their mobile money machines. Bangkok bar girls are much more professional than their Pattaya sisters. Now you know!
CHINESE NEW YEAR IN PATTAYA
Soon there will be dragons roaming along Walking Street and I’m not talking about nasty old women! Don’t be alarmed because it is Chinese New Year January 26-28th. During this period in Thailand, you will see plenty of ‘Jeen-Thai’ or ethnic Chinese-Thai people celebrate the ‘Year of the Ox.’ You will also see the dragon dance accompanied by clashing symbols and other musical instruments on Walking Street this Monday, January 26th. This is a good opportunity for photographers’ seeking Asian cultural snapshots. Enjoy!
What do most people do on their days off? I suppose they relax, watch TV, surf the internet, spend quality time with their other half, go shopping, visit their favourite restaurant, pursue their favourite sports or hobbies, or go to see a movie. What does Dave The Rave do? He goes on a barman’s holiday, (I don’t drive buses) and visits the go-go bars in Soi Cowboy. Being the Go-Go Guru, old habits die hard, which is not surprising. And so, on a night off from my duties in Angelwitch, I decided to meet up with Sanook Shaun in Soi Cowboy. I know I’m fortunate to have this lifestyle, but I like to think my ’sacrifice’ is for you guys! (more…)
The time has come. Those ghastly ghosts and grisly ghouls are joining other creatures of the night for Halloween in Thailand. Forget about the critical credit crunch and enjoy a Halloween Party in the Land Of Sanook! It is time for all the big boys and girls to enjoy some scary fun. So bar guys and bar girls, make sure you are in the right place at the right time. Halloween in Thailand’s naughty nightlife is unrivalled across the globe for fun factor. But, make sure that you are with a lady of the night and not a creature of the night. In some places, it’s hard to tell the difference. We want orgasms not exorcisms! (more…)
Last week I mentioned an increase in bar trade in Bangkok and Pattaya. But, I deliberately did not state exactly how much of an increase. It would be wrong to state that everywhere is doing a brisk trade. But then again, it would also be incorrect to assume that everywhere is dead. Generally, the most popular bars always keep their heads well above water, whereas the unpopular bars always struggle. For example, if you walk into two bars and they are both quiet, you could be misled into thinking that the whole vicinity is dead. You might possibly be right. But, what if those particular bars are always dead? OOPS! You have wrongly assessed that area, especially if other bars are doing a brisk trade. Therefore, creating an accurate picture is never that simple. As a former social worker, I was instructed not to assume. This “ass-u-me” translates as, “Never make an ass of you or me.” If every bar in a particular area is quiet, then there is the answer… (more…)
The next edition of the go-go girly magazine After Dark Asia will be on sale soon. The initial launch date was set for August 8th. However, the publisher’s estimation was a little premature. Thailand’s top glossy girly magazine will be on the shelves around the middle of this month. One of the partners is an image artist and the other is more of a piss artist! (I just couldn’t resist having a joke about good ole Bob). The photographer formerly worked for Penthouse Magazine, which explains the superb quality of the photos. This cover shot is one of the best I’ve seen. It is an excellent photo and the dolly birds are sensationally sensual. Copies are available from newsstands in Bangkok, but After Dark Asia is much more widely available across Pattaya. Check it out! (more…)
Welcome to the Thai New Year 2551 and let’s all hope it is a good year for Thailand. Another Songkran has come and gone for most of us, but don’t forget that Pattaya will continue the water warfare until this weekend. I have to say that I thought the Songkran Festival was a bit quiet overall this year. If you question what I mean by that, then just ask a bar owner. The go-go bars in Bangkok had fewer go-go dancers, due to many bar girls deciding to go home this Songkran. Some go-go bars cut their girls as much as 2,000 Baht per day. This is a very severe cut for not working during Songkran. However, this can be counterproductive to the bar, because some bar girls will stop work for the rest of April. If a bargirl is cut 6,000 Baht that is over 50% of a go-go dancers salary. Of course, many Thais are on much lower salaries than go-go dancers are. Most service girls don’t earn 6,000 Baht. Therefore, a bargirl might well think; why should I work for nothing? I would hazard a guess that in most go-go bars in Bangkok, the takings were down on last year. Also, I couldn’t help but notice that fewer bargirls got into the spirit of things. (more…)
Sawatdee Pee Mai Kap! Or in English, Happy Thai New Year! For those of you who are in Thailand, I sincerely hope that you are having a happy and a safe Songkran. I say “safe” because every year hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries are reported. WATER WARFARE WARNING – Ensure that you are extra careful on the roads during the Songkran water festival. Most of Thailand celebrate Songkran from April 13th – 15th, but in Pattaya it started yesterday and it will continue until next weekend. I thought that I had better post this as a reminder. So guys, be aware that the Pattaya “water war” will last until April 20th. This year a lot of bargirls have gone home, leaving most go-go bars with fewer go-go dancers. Even though it is Thai New Year, the closing times in Bangkok remain between 1:00am and 2:00am. Down in Pattaya most of the go-go bars, pubs and clubs are closing late again. Good news for the Pattaya party animals. Party on! The Thai authorities announced that LARGE water cannons would be outlawed. However, although the supermarkets listened, there are plenty of big water guns for sale on the street. You can put that down to the idiosyncrasy of “Amazing Thailand” I guess. I dared to venture out onto the streets of Bangkok this afternoon. And, as per usual, it’s wild ‘n’ crazy out there folks! When that ice water hits you and you get cologne powder in your eyes; now that’s a killer!
ANGELWITCH GO-GO BAR WILL BE CLOSED ON APRIL 15th
To show respect to the staff in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar, the management have decided to close Angelwitch on April 15th. It will just be for the one night to allow the Thai staff to enjoy Songkran. Please note that Angelwitch in Nana Plaza will be closed tomorrow, but Angelwitch in Pattaya will be open.
THAI SONGKRAN HISTORY AND TRADITION
The traditional Songkran water festival is a very elegant ceremony, which originated from ancient Siam. The official Thai New Year is celebrated from April 13th - 15th. Orchid flowers were placed into silver bowls containing special scented water. Younger members of Thai families would gently sprinkle the Songkran water over their elder relative’s hands. This special water was also gently poured onto the shoulder of an elder. Your own body had to be thoroughly cleaned, along with your house. You could call it “religious spring cleaning.” Songkran in Thailand is not just a tradition of external cleansing, but also personal cleansing of the mind and spirit. Buddha images are thoroughly washed and sprinkled with special scented water. Flower garlands are hung around the necks of the Buddha images. This is then followed by respectful prayers. Throughout Thailand’s multitude of “wats” (Thai temples), you can here the humming tones of Thai people reciting Pali. (Pali is the ancient scripture of Theravada Buddhism).
AFTER DARK ASIA MAGAZINE VOLUME 6
I have been informed that the newest edition of After Dark Asia magazine will be on sale just after Songkran. Look out for After Dark Asia volume 6 on the newsstands throughout Bangkok and Pattaya. After Dark Asia has established itself as Thailand’s top go-go girly magazine. The photography is excellent. A copy of After Dark Asia will set you back 150 Baht. Check out the HOT go-go girls!
For some time now, my friend Nick has wanted to hit the town with me. Nick is currently based in Cambodia as a mine clearance specialist. Obviously, any day off from the minefields would be relaxing, but I wanted to introduce Nick to some places that he has not visited before. I took a night off from my duties in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar and I looked forward to the night ahead. I wasn’t feeling 100% but I was determined to meet Nick and spend some quality time with a good friend. Nick was about to experience one of my “nightseeing tours” and he seemed keen enough. We arranged to meet at Sunrise Tacos Mexican Grill, which is located in the Leader Price Complex. (For those not familiar with the Leader Price Complex, it is right next to Time Square Building between Sukhumvit, Soi 12 and Soi 14). Several months ago, the owners of Sunrise Tacos decided to take over a vacant space directly opposite their shop. At first, I was not sure what Greg Lange was intending to do with two Sunrise Tacos shops. Was Greg intending to open two branches of Sunrise Tacos in the same complex? This all became very clear when Greg explained the concept to me. The original Sunrise Tacos is a small place, and it now provides a 24 hour takeaway and delivery service. The new, larger premise has become a cosy restaurant that is stylishly designed and furbished. The credit for the interior design goes to Mrs Lange. Greg’s wife Nui has done a superb job! (more…)
After a few minutes of deliberation, the first go-go bar that we visited was Shark Go-Go Bar. For such a good go-go bar, Shark was quiet, and this was a Friday night. One positive thing about Shark Bar is that the drink prices are very reasonable. Most of the regular house beers are 125 Baht, which is very good by today’s prices. Shark Bar never feature any shows, but some guys might argue that the dancing dolls on stage is a show in itself. I think that Shark has a high level of attractive go-go dancers, but this does come at some price. Most of the dolly birds know that they are HOT and they will play on this. The hot babes here will not always approach guys (especially strangers) and therefore, they can appear standoffish. Furthermore, effort on your part is necessary if you want to meet and get to know the go-go dancers. (more…)
