Once again, there is a very special event for pop fans on Saturday, September 17th. The Bangkok Beatles are preparing for their “Beatlemania Hits Bangkok” live concert, which is hosted by the Black Pagoda in Patpong Soi 2

This much anticipated concert by the mega talented Bangkok Beatles is predicted to draw a large crowd of fans. And so, with that in mind, it’s best to arrive early.

Cover Your What?

Saturday, May 13th, 2017

Well it’s been one hell of a week!  Which culminated with my entire website going on the Fritz on Friday night. Some frantic calls to the hosting provider and a few other people, and we managed to get the old girl back up again.

In this day an age, websites need updating technically, as well as regular content being posted. I am not a technical guy I just know the basics. But, me and the old girl have been through so much together since 2006 and I would be mortified if anything happened to my ole bird! 🙂

THE ALL NEW HILLARY 1 BAR (RAJAH COMPLEX SOI NANA)

Anyway, I remember years ago in England, when I was a nightclub doorman, this massive Bentley rolled up one day. My mate nudged me and said, ‘Here that’s Sheikh Yamani,’  and I replied a bit too loud, ‘Shake your what?’

Well it happened it again the other day when Joe was telling me about the new event he has planned for the end of May at the Black Pagoda, which is called ‘Cover Your Stones’  and I blurted out, ‘Cover your what?’

The event Joe was telling me about should be good  because it’s two of Bangkok’s most famous cover bands;  the Bangkok Beatles and Sticky Fingers, going head-to-head at the Black Pagoda.

I am looking forward to this, as I have seen the Sticky Fingers at Clubhouse Sports Bar and I have to say they are very good. I love The Rolling Stones songs and this promises to be a great night.  The video of the last live music event they did at the Black Pagoda looks like it went very well.

For anyone interested in this event it’s on Saturday 27th March from 9:00 PM at the Black Pagoda, Patpong 2 – tickets can be purchased on the day, or in advance on Oneplace. You can also join the Facebook event

There were a couple of big events over the past week, one was the 4 Year Anniversary at Insanity Nightclub.  That was on Thursday and I had every intention of going, but I got totally waylaid at the other event, which was the opening of the new Hillary 1 at Rajah Complex on Soi Nana.

Although I was not there my good mate Toby was about and he said it was a great night at Insanity Nightclub. But, I doubt if he can remember all of it. Toby did  manage to capture this video footage, which looks like he had slightly more interesting evening than me at Hillary’s. However, I have to say I was very impressed with the new venue and the refurbishment job is superb. Mind you, I thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy of several red hot promo dolly birds. There were some interesting guests, including some of the bar owners from Nana Plaza.

More news and tittle tattle soon. Cheers!

WOW! THIS GIRL CAN DANCE 😀 #insanity #bangkok

Live Music At The Penalty Spot Pub

RICHIE WALKER LIVE AT THE PENALTY SPOT

LIVE MUSIC AT THE PENALTY SPOT

Conveniently situated just a few sois away from Soi Cowboy, you will find The Penalty Spot Pub. Located on Sukhumvit Soi 29, this sporty bar has ownership connections with Tilac Go-Go Bar in Soi Cowboy. Whether you are doing a Sukhumvit stroll from Soi 33 to Soi 23 or viceversa, Sukhumvit’s latest sports pub is a suitable place for a pit stop. Pleasant enough decor is inviting, as it is rather different to the norm. After drinking in pubs for over 30 years, it is encouraging to see something a little bit different. Footy fans can ‘catch the match’ with English Premier League Football being the main live TV event.  The English Premiership football is really getting into gear, with Manchester United going top of the table. Come on you Red Devils!

THE PENALTY SPOT - SUKHUMVIT SOI 29 - BANGKOK

Apart from several TV screens showing live sports, The Penalty Spot provides good live music entertainment on a nightly basis. Multi-talented singer and guitarist Richie Walker is the live music artist on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Richie performs from 6:30pm until 9:00pm. Richie can sing a variety of songs ranging from the Bee Gees to The Beatles. Richie’s rendition of ‘Layla’ by Eric Clapton is particularly good. The alternative live music artist is Johnny ‘the one-man band’ who is something of a human jukebox. Although not in Richie’s league, Johnny has a vast repertoire of songs, all coming from a sound memory. Johnny performs on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays up until 9:00pm. A resident band play cover songs from around 9:00pm until late. Worth a visit if you are on a ‘booze cruise’ between Soi Cowboy and Soi 33. You don’t have to be a footy fan to hit The Penalty Spot!

Something else? The Soi Cowboy Reviews Page and the Nana Plaza Reviews Page have been updated this week. Cheers!

Thailand Night Fever

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

JOHN SMITHS BITTER & STRONGBOW CIDER PROME GIRLSSome people have talked about Bangkok’s nightlife scene being in decline.  But, do these people realise the vast scope of Bangkok’s nightlife?  Many of us humans often tend to be creatures of habit.  Some of us tend to habitually frequent the same venues and rarely wander away from our favourite places.  Quite often, the only time I see my resident farang friends doing a whistle-stop tour of the Bangkok bar scene, is when their friends visit them.  There are thousands of nightlife venues in Bangkok.  The variety of nightlife includes multitudes of beer bars, go-go bars, discos, theme pubs, karaoke bars, coyote bars, live music venues, gentlemen’s clubs and highly sophisticated nightclubs.  The likes of Bed Supperclub, The Tunnel and Q Bar are among the very best in South East Asia.  There is plenty of action packed nightlife in the City Of Angels, but sometimes you just have to be more adventurous.  It comes as little surprise that the most popular venues remain busy all year round.  Perhaps consider going to an area that you rarely go to, or you have never seen before.  Like the old saying goes, “Variety is the spice of life.”  When I joined the recent Stephen Hendry Roadshow in Bangkok, we probably visited more pubs in one week than many people do in a year.  Venture out there and party!    (more…)
