Is It Time To Visit Pattaya?

Monday, August 28th, 2017

I have been visiting Pattaya since the 1980’s and I used to live there annually for a few months. The consensus of Bangkok expats states, while it is great to get out of The Big Mango sometimes, they can only stand a few days in Pattaya.

I still think Pleasure Playground is a great place to have fun and blow off some steam, or get something else blown off! 🙂

EVEN MODERN PATTAYA IS TRANQUIL AT THE RIGHT TIME OF DAY

My nickname for Pattaya is Pleasure Playground, with more to see and do than just go on a ‘booze cruise’ all over the city. If you don’t like big crowds of rowdy boozers, head for Jomtien Beach, which is home to quieter bars and restaurants.

HARD TO BELIEVE PATTAYA WAS ONCE JUST A TRANQUIL FISHING VILLAGE

Some guys complain about how Walking Street has become so brash and bawdy, but nobody is forced to visit. There are tons of bars and restaurants all over the city, so many that we are spoiled for choice. Research the Internet, see which venues get good reviews and search for places that suit your needs.

THE SEA FRONT ON BEACH ROAD PATTAYA

No matter how much the powers that be try to suppress the wild reputation, Pattaya is a notorious nightlife capital. It won’t change too much, or they will have to close all of the bars. Pattaya is not a destination for some guys, it’s an addiction!

Brief History Of Thailand’s Farang Food

When I first came to Thailand way back in the 1980’s (yes I feel old!), the farang food menu in Pattaya bars, comprised of very little. Some bars served no more than a Ham And Cheese Toastie, which ideally is only a snack. After eating too much native food, my poor stomach got all Thai-ed up. Well, at least the Toasted Sandwich Maker was invented to satisfy some of our needs.

Okay, you could get an American Breakfast in some places, but it was not a real cooked breakfast, especially like us Brits are so accustomed to eating. It was a jazzed up Continental Breakfast at best.

These were served with cheap cooked ham, rubbery hot dogs, sweet scrambled eggs (due too much cream), jam with barely toasted bread and tea that was like nats piss! Some Thai chefs thought it cool to add some Thai food. This sort of made it a Thainglish Breakfast. A few of these added ingredients would be sacrilege to a proper chef. The Michelin Star Award-Winning Master Chef Gordon Ramsey, would blow his top if he saw what they served in those days.

THE GAME SPORTS BAR (SUKHUMVIT SOI 9 BANGKOK) ENGLISH BREAKFAST

These so called ‘brekkies’ can only be explained as a Thai version of a ‘cooked’ breakfast. It was cheap and cheerful. You ate it, because there were very few choices of Western food in those days. Incidentally, there were suspicious cans of Guinness available that were brewed in Thailand. Naive Americans were the only guys drinking it. Meanwhile, us Brits were giggling, as it tasted like drain cleaner.

Oh boy, how all of this has changed nowadays. With the emergence of theme pubs and a lot of them being British pubs, comes a quantity of quality. Both Bangkok and Pattaya boast some excellent establishments. So much so, you are almost spoiled for choice down Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok.

Due to rising competition over the years, the good pubs try hard to provide the best meals. The food is cooked by qualified chefs who use quality, authentic ingredients. The tide has turned and it’s very much for the better.

This leads me to mention the Baht Buster British Breakfast served daily (09:00-01:00) at Stumble In Bar located on Soi Nana. It’s great bang-for-baht at just 199฿ net and it is made with quality ingredients.

It has to be said that Sapphire GoGo Bar is a real gem. This is one Pattaya gogo bar, which is packed with hot babes, with a party atmosphere.

While the party animals Paul (owner) and Gerry (manager) may be up to all kinds of Shenanigans, they do have a fantastic bunch of RED HOT babes. Boss Paul’s decision to switch to hiring coyotes has paid off for Sapphire GoGo Bar.

Walking Street Pattaya Many Years Ago

Friday, March 15th, 2013

Many Moons Ago! Here is a rare photo of Walking Street in Pattaya from decades ago. There is no sea of neon signs and a distinct lack of ladyboys!

If you compare Walking Street in this photo to nowadays it seems like an episode from The Twilight Zone…

Angelwitch Pattaya Geisha Girls

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

The Show Must Go On! The original Angelwitch Go-Go Bar was launched in Nana Plaza, Bangkok over 13 years ago and then, the sister branch Angelwitch Pattaya followed several years later. About 12 years ago the co-owners Matt and Pim, realised they could not compete with go-go bars such as the Rainbow Bars, which were brimming with stunning, young go-go girls. And so, Angelwitch Go-Go Bar combined classic rock music with cleverly choreographed stage shows. The very first stage shows were an immediate hit and the rest is history.

It is a known fact in the go-go bar business that those who create their own brand, or niche are always much more likely to be successful. Angelwitch Rock Dancers is definitely a refreshing change from the trashy techno and go-go girls doing the skytrain shuffle in zombie mode!

I took the photo below whilst visiting Angelwitch Go-Go Bar in Pattaya. By the way, if you are not aware Angelwitch Pattaya is located on the small lane Soi 15 just off Walking Street.

Many people class Angelwitch as the ultimate show ‘n’ go-go bar, which features a repertoire of professionally choreographed stage shows. The style of the stage shows may not appeal to everybody, but nobody can deny the success of Angelwitch. You only have to look at the masses they attract every night. Even during these tough economic times, Angelwitch Bangkok and Angelwitch Pattaya still manage to mesmerize large audiences. Unlike many other rival go-go bars, the Angelwitch Show Bars have stood the test of time.

The lovely and very talented Angelwitch Showgirls about to perform the spectacular Geisha Show. It is performed to ‘Frozen’ by Madonna…
