BANGKOK CURFEW UPDATE 26/05/2010 - All the bars were open in Soi Cowboy last night. In Nana Plaza the go-go bars were open except for the Crown Groups bars. Down in Patpong Soi 2 Bar Bar are open from 2:00pm until 10:00pm for the duration of the curfew. Considering the early hours and the heavy rain, there is quite a good number of bar girls turning up for work. The curfew starts at midnight and ends at 4:00am on Saturday, May 29th.
WARNING! The curfew is serious and starts at midnight until 4:00am. Be aware that a lot of taxi drivers are refusing to take customers from 11:00pm onwards. This especially applies if your destination is some distance. Some notorious taxi drivers are demanding extortionate amounts of money. Therefore, do not leave it too late before you make the journey back to your room. Stickman had to zoom off on a motorbike taxi, because no metered taxi wanted to take him last night. (more…)

NANA PLAZA - WELCOME TO THE NEON JUNGLE
RAINBOW 4 GO-GO BAR, NANA PLAZA, BANGKOK
RAINBOW ROUNDUP - Continuing on our journey into the neon jungle, we decided to check out a couple of the Rainbow Bars. Rainbow 1 was as lively as ever and the line-up remains for the best part very impressive. Most of the go-go girls were sporting mono bikinis, but I spotted a few who were in their birthday suits. Yes indeed, things have finally changed in Nana Plaza. The gang decided to visit Rainbow 2, which is located next to Obsession Bar in the far right corner. Rainbow 2 was never a favourite of mine, because I felt it never created the right atmosphere for Westerners. The amount of open space is partly to blame, but the biggest reason is that it has remained a Jap Trap for many years. However, things have changed and Rainbow 2 has become more farang friendly. The stage was packed with go-go girls and the majority were facially and physically attractive. These Rainbow bar girls know they are cute and sexy, I have never seen mirrors get so much attention! NANA PLAZA - WELCOME TO THE NEON JUNGLE
There are early indications that the forthcoming high season in Nana Plaza is likely to be better than expected. Well, this at least applies to the most popular go-go bars. Some go-go bars in Nana Plaza are very busy for the beginning of October. For instance, last Friday night was one of the busiest nights in Angelwitch for the entire year. The show ‘n’ go-go bars are continuing to do a brisk trade at weekends. The main show bars in Nana Plaza are, Angelwitch, Spankys and Hollywood Carousel. (more…)

NANA PLAZA - ENTER THE NEON JUNGLE
Recently, there is a noticeable increase in visitors to Nana Plaza and this past weekend saw some go-go bars packed to capacity with customers. One reason is due to a five-day national holiday in Japan. The three main Rainbow Bars, or ‘Jap Traps’ in Nana Plaza namely; Rainbow 1, Rainbow 2 and Rainbow 4 were brimming with Japanese customers. I know I have a laugh at their expense, but the Japanese are usually no trouble at all as paying punters. They never seem to complain, never get aggressive and rarely cause trouble. In terms of behaviour and generosity, the Japanese are ideal customers for the go-go bars and not surprisingly, very popular with Thai bar girls. (more…)

THE SMOKING BAN DEBATE CONTINUES
I have to say that I am a bit surprised at how much of a debate the smoking ban has become. This seems to be a very important issue to some Westerners, while other people feel there are bigger problems to deal with. Down in Soi Cowboy, the smoking ban has been enforced in every bar. Smokers can be seen having a cigarette outside the bars in Soi Cowboy. Some smokers are openly displaying their disdain for the new law. Meanwhile, non-smokers are arguing that it is high time that smoking is banned in all bars right across Thailand. Non-smokers are clearly saying butt out! On the other hand, there are smokers who feel hard done by after all these years.
In Nana Plaza, the authorities have not enforced the smoking ban. Non-smokers should be aware of this fact. However, in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar they have banned the Thai staff from smoking inside the bar. This is something of a compromise to the situation. Customers are allowed to smoke in all of the four Rainbow Bars. Therefore, rival go-go bars do not want to lose customers to them. The smoking ban has to be a rule for all if it is going to work.
