Patpong Defies Bar Closure Order This Weekend

While the bars in Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy and Walking Street in Pattaya are CLOSED on Friday and Saturday, the bars in Patpong are OPEN. So, if you really want to have a booze cruise, then head to the go-go bars in Patpong, or the pubs such as  Molly Malones in the Silom area.

Patpong Soi 2 is a narrow lane adjacent to Patpong 1 near the Sala Daeng Skytrain Station. Inside Patpong 2 you will find BarBar Fetish Club, plus go-go bars such as Bada Bing, Electric Blue and Black Pagoda.

Meanwhile, the go-go girls in Patpong 2 eagerly await you.

Despite the recent bomb blasts at Sala Daeng Skytrain Station, I decided a visit to Silom was long overdue.  I spontaneously felt I needed to go and report what was happening in Patpong. (more…)

DEADLY GRENADE ATTACK ON SKYTRAIN STATION

BANGKOK BOMB BLAST UPDATETRAVEL WARNINGS 23/04/2010 - Several countries have issued Thailand Travel Warnings.  However, Germany advises that visitors to Bangkok should avoid Silom district and any groups of anti-government protesters.  At this stage, I agree with Germany.  Meanwhile, America, Britain and Australia continue to send out ‘broken record’ Travel Warnings.  No matter where the actual problem areas are located, they constantly send out Thailand Travel Warnings.  This makes it a very difficult task for foreigners to evaluate the situation.  (more…)

THE SMOKING BAN DEBATE CONTINUES

AFTER DARK ASIA MAGAZINE VOLUME 5I have to say that I am a bit surprised at how much of a debate the smoking ban has become.  This seems to be a very important issue to some Westerners, while other people feel there are bigger problems to deal with.  Down in Soi Cowboy, the smoking ban has been enforced in every bar.  Smokers can be seen having a cigarette outside the bars in Soi Cowboy.  Some smokers are openly displaying their disdain for the new law.  Meanwhile, non-smokers are arguing that it is high time that smoking is banned in all bars right across Thailand.  Non-smokers are clearly saying butt out!  On the other hand, there are smokers who feel hard done by after all these years.

In Nana Plaza, the authorities have not enforced the smoking ban.  Non-smokers should be aware of this fact.  However, in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar they have banned the Thai staff from smoking inside the bar.  This is something of a compromise to the situation.  Customers are allowed to smoke in all of the four Rainbow Bars.  Therefore, rival go-go bars do not want to lose customers to them.  The smoking ban has to be a rule for all if it is going to work.
