Bangkok Airport Thailand - Big Surge In Bangkok Airport Arrivals

Bangkok Royal Funeral Reminder

As the funeral of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej approaches, an enormous amount of people will be arriving in Bangkok.

Be aware that from October 25th until the end of this month, the Old City will be full to the brim with mourners attending the Royal Funeral.

The main days are October 25-27 with the cremation ceremony taking place on October 26th. Everybody is advised to wear black, or white.

The Big Mango prepares for a huge surge in airport arrivals, which is in addition to those arriving by land. Thai National Security will be stepped up a significant amount, swelling the number of bodies even more.

It is estimated that at least 250,000 Thais will attend the Royal Funeral.

British Pound Bounces Back

Tuesday, September 19th, 2017

british pounds sterling - British Pound Bounces Back

It’s been a good week for the British pound, as it surged against both the American dollar and the Euro.

In what can only be described as a sudden turnaround, the pound has made a surprise comeback. Last week the sterling rose to a one-year high of $1.327 against the American dollar.

Similar to a scene from a Rocky movie, the British sterling was “pounded” against the ropes, but has come out on top. The previous fear of Brexit sent the pound into a spiraling descent, with the Euro continuing to gain in strength for some time now.

The spike in the pound is largely due to the threat of the British Government being forced to raise interest rates. The reason is linked to a rise of inflation, as the decision looms in the British financial atmosphere.

thai baht notes - British Pound Bounces Back

Regarding a very strong Thai baht, there has been some national criticism of the Thai government. Some locals are saying it’s affecting the export market and also that Thailand is becoming a more expensive option.

However, there is more good news for Brits, as the pound has also risen against the Thai baht. A number of disgruntled Brits will say, “About bloody time” and they will no doubt expect more. But, the poor performance of the pound has really affected Brits abroad. Also, the staggering strength of the baht has dented the fixed income of expats, especially British pensioners living in Thailand.

Dare we say the pound is starting to look bullish?! Let’s hope the pound continues to rise to around 50 baht, where it will really start to gain attention.

Bangkok Bank Exchange Rates - Bangkok Bank Exchange Rates

Today I decided to check Thailand’s Foreign Exchange Rates at Bangkok Bank. Well, it certainly does not look pretty for some nations!

While the American dollar has remained consistent for years, it is not by any means holding a strong stance against the baht. It just sits there, as it has done for ages.

The British pound has fallen the most out of the world’s main currencies, whereas it was previously strong. In general, the piss poor pound has caused a lot of anguish for Brits travelling abroad to many countries.

Meanwhile, the Euro has continued to strengthen against the baht. It sits right up the backside of the British pound. Only a few baht separates the two rival currencies.

Here are today’s Buying Rates announced by Bangkok Bank…

USD = 32.74 (America $50-100)

EUR = 38.89 (Euro Zone)

GBP = 42.46 (United Kingdom)

AUD = 25.80 (Australia)

JPY = 29.86 (Japan)

Thailand Weather Warning

Being English, I guess I have that stereotypical obsession for the weather. It’s that time of year again, when the heavens open up and down comes the rain. The Thai authorities are telling us not to ignore flood warnings, especially in certain provinces, where flash floods can and do occur.

MONSOON SEASON IN THAILAND 2017

The rain in Thailand comes down suddenly and within minutes the roads can start to flood. If you ever get caught unprepared in a heavy downpour, you can buy an umbrella and/or a raincoat from the numerous 7 Eleven shops. Also, make sure during the rainy season you have suitable footwear.

Just be prepared, because the worst of the torrential rain is yet to come. The photo below depicts how Thai street vendors protect themselves and their goods against the elements. Rain does not stop play!

New name new deal at EQ

Friday, January 15th, 2016

Equality hasn’t changed it’s name, it’s just shortened it to EQ and now calls itself a Late Night Club – which does sound a bit better than ’embracing sexuality’.  Although I am all for embracing sexuality myself, especially after a few pints!

Now that brings me to subject of this post which is the new deal at the new enhanced EQ.  The Hot new deal, which starts tonight,  is you pay a 200 THB entry charge and you get an OPEN BAR, yes that’s right an open bar, all you can drink, from 11pm to 1am.

Now obviously if you can only drink one beer in two hours, well apart from dragging the chain, you probably didn’t win or lose much but if you knock back a few (don’t look at me!) well then this has to be the best deal in town by a Bangkok mile!

eq late night club

                 Apparently the open bar is limited to standard (house pour) and singha,  if you grab one of these flyers from the girls on the street you get an EXTRA shot after 1am

  A top gun marketing team means the qual at EQ in terms of girls should definitely improve. We will be watching with interest as I have always believed in the right hands this club has great potential.

New Year’s Eve In Bangkok

Saturday, December 31st, 2011

Yet another year has raced by and New Year’s Eve is upon us. It leaves me wondering why the months fly by, as though we are in a time warp… Woosh!

It has been a year of mixed fortunes for me, you could call it the good, the bad, and the ugly! But, for the best part it has been good, especially towards the end of this year. My mate and popular Bangkok columnist Stickman said, ‘I really think 2012 is going to be your year Dave.’ Now that’s a nice thought and I hope Stickman is right. Hope you have a great year too Stick!
