I don’t know about you, but every time I look at BBC World News, it is full of doom and gloom.  I seriously wonder what is happening to this world.  Therefore, at some stage, you just have to escape the insanity by switching off the media machine.  How do we do this?  The answer is simple, you get your glad rags on and hit the Thailand nightlife… (more…)

AFTER DARK ASIA – The latest edition of After Dark Asia Volume 13 is out now.  After Dark now features 52 pages and costs 195 baht.  This special Bangkok edition features ‘The Girls Of Nana Plaza’ which makes a refreshing change.  Combined with more ‘showing’ emerging in Nana Plaza, the timing is perfect.  At least 10 go-go bars in Nana Plaza have implemented either mono bikinis, or birthday suits tailored by Mother Nature.  Rainbow 4 and Hollywood Carousel have abandoned all shyness and gone the Full Monty!

Seasons greetings!  Once again Christmas is just around the corner and so, yet another year has almost ended.  I don’t know about you, but 2009 has raced by for me.  This leads me to think, where has the year gone?  I must be having a mini middle-age crisis!  Nonetheless, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  Happy Holidays! Thailand Night Fever

The next edition of the go-go girly magazine After Dark Asia will be on sale soon. The initial launch date was set for August 8th. However, the publisher’s estimation was a little premature. Thailand’s top glossy girly magazine will be on the shelves around the middle of this month. One of the partners is an image artist and the other is more of a piss artist! (I just couldn’t resist having a joke about good ole Bob). The photographer formerly worked for Penthouse Magazine, which explains the superb quality of the photos. This cover shot is one of the best I’ve seen. It is an excellent photo and the dolly birds are sensationally sensual. Copies are available from newsstands in Bangkok, but After Dark Asia is much more widely available across Pattaya. Check it out! (more…)

Thailand Night Fever

The frugal folks among us sometimes misinterpret the low season with regards to Thailand’s nightlife scene.  They automatically think that the low season is time to come out of social hibernation.  With a sigh of relief they will say, “At long last the tourist season is over.”  Meanwhile, us party animals enjoy Thailand’s vast nightlife scene all year round.  We are so pleased to merrily party 12 months of the year.  But alas, the frustratingly frugal folk think that low season becomes their territory.  This can and often does backfire on them.  Are you sitting comfortably?  Then let’s begin… (more…)

THAI GIRLS - BANGKOK - THAILANDThere are some decisions in life that require serious consideration.  One such decision is whether to get married.  If we make the wrong decision, it can cause us extreme emotional and financial suffering.  This suffering might last for many years to come.  By taking a closer look at this subject, we can all remind ourselves how important the commitment of marriage really is.  It would be very foolish not to take marriage seriously.  Despite the fact that it has almost become a trend to get divorced, marriage is about entering a partnership with the person you love and care for.  The vows that one recites, emphasise a special commitment to a loved one, who is to become (theoretically speaking) our life partner.  It is a sad fact that in Farangland most marriages fail.  This is so often such a worrying problem, because children are caught up in the crossfire.  In some extreme cases, the children are used as ammunition to win divorce cases.  This is nothing short of sick, but in this era of dog-eat-dog, it is often a matter of “win at all costs.”   These are the facts of the matter, which is a sad reflection of today’s society. Some people have talked about Bangkok’s nightlife scene being in decline.  But, do these people realise the vast scope of Bangkok’s nightlife?  Many of us humans often tend to be creatures of habit.  Some of us tend to habitually frequent the same venues and rarely wander away from our favourite places.  Quite often, the only time I see my resident farang friends doing a whistle-stop tour of the Bangkok bar scene, is when their friends visit them.  There are thousands of nightlife venues in Bangkok.  The variety of nightlife includes multitudes of beer bars, go-go bars, discos, theme pubs, karaoke bars, coyote bars, live music venues, gentlemen’s clubs and highly sophisticated nightclubs.  The likes of Bed Supperclub, The Tunnel and Q Bar are among the very best in South East Asia.  There is plenty of action packed nightlife in the City Of Angels, but sometimes you just have to be more adventurous.  It comes as little surprise that the most popular venues remain busy all year round.  Perhaps consider going to an area that you rarely go to, or you have never seen before.  Like the old saying goes, “Variety is the spice of life.”  When I joined the recent Stephen Hendry Roadshow in Bangkok, we probably visited more pubs in one week than many people do in a year.  Venture out there and party!    (more…)

Daves Raves – It’s Party Time!

Friday, May 30th, 2008

The Robin Hood Pub celebrates its anniversary on Saturday, May 31st.  The Robin Hood is located right on the corner of the entrance to Sukhumvit Soi 33/1.  If you want to enjoy a party, then pop along to Robin Hood’s birthday bash tomorrow night.  Party on!

BULL'S HEAD PUB BANGKOKTonight it’s “Friday Night Fever” at the Bull’s Head Pub.  The Bull’s Head is located on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 and they are hosting their last Friday of the month disco.  DJ Paul Jackson will be spinning the tunes, so make sure you put your disco dancing shoes on!

The Big Mango Bar have just announced that there will be a Soft Opening Party this Tuesday, June 3rd.  The reopening of the Big Mango was scheduled for Sunday, June 1st, but not surprisingly the Thai builders overran the proposed date.  The new Big Mango is located in the tiny alleyway between Jools Bar and The Tavern on Soi Nana.  Jools Bar is opposite the 7 ELEVEN near the Rajah Hotel car park.

EVE - X ZONE GO-GO BAR - PATTAYAPattaya can be an unpredictable place at the best of times, but the hiring and firing of bar managers can happen at a whim.  Some Pattaya guys refer to one particular bar boss as Rambling Ricky!  Shortly after the partners of Sisterz Go-Go Bar decided to release Rambling Ricky, he was on the move again to secure another go-go bar.  Following a period of negotiations, he has now become the manager of Baby Dolls Go-Go Bar.  For those who are unsure, Baby Dolls is located in the increasingly popular Soi 15.  Ricky commented that although Baby Dolls has now changed ownership, it will continue to operate with the current format.  Rambling Ricky’s following now know where they can find him.  I know one thing for sure Tricky Ricky’s show concepts are hot stuff.  I hope Ricky settles in at Baby Dolls, and that things work out well for him.  Let’s face it, we are all getting dizzy trying to follow Rambling Roaming Ricky!  If you are in the neighbourhood, please visit Baby Dolls and pass on my regards to Ricky.  Cheers!

SOI COWBOY - BANGKOK - THAILAND 008After a few minutes of deliberation, the first go-go bar that we visited was Shark Go-Go Bar.  For such a good go-go bar, Shark was quiet, and this was a Friday night.  One positive thing about Shark Bar is that the drink prices are very reasonable.  Most of the regular house beers are 125 Baht, which is very good by today’s prices.  Shark Bar never feature any shows, but some guys might argue that the dancing dolls on stage is a show in itself.  I think that Shark has a high level of attractive go-go dancers, but this does come at some price.  Most of the dolly birds know that they are HOT and they will play on this.  The hot babes here will not always approach guys (especially strangers) and therefore, they can appear standoffish.  Furthermore, effort on your part is necessary if you want to meet and get to know the go-go dancers. The Big Mango Bar Has Closed

Big Mango Bar - Nana Plaza - Bangkok

Located above Lucky Lukes Bar on the middle level in Nana Plaza, the Big Mango Bar have just announced that they are closing their doors permanently from this Saturday, October 27.  This is bound to cause some shockwaves throughout the Nana Plaza neighbourhood.  The sudden, shock news leaves the Big Mango Bar regulars with only two nights to drink ‘em dry!  This announcement from the Big Mango Bar is extremely short notice, so many of you will get this news very late.  However, for those of you who are in Bangkok right now, you can visit the Big Mango Bar Thursday, October 25 (that’s tonight guys!), and/or Friday, October 26.

Running a successful bar in Thailand is a tougher challenge than many observers can imagine.  It is clearly a case of survival of the fittest.  There is nothing wrong with making mistakes, but it is whether we learn from those mistakes that counts the most.  Sad as it is to see the Big Mango Bar become history, let us hope that there is no domino effect for the other less popular bars in Nana Plaza.  There are all kinds of rumours flying around about Nana Plaza, but do not worry the most popular bars continue to draw the crowds.

I find it strange to say, swing by the Big Mango Bar for the very last time.  But, I think that the story behind this sudden end will unfold eventually.  Word on the Bangkok streets is that the Big Mango Bar will spring up again in another location.  For the sake of the Big Mango Bar regulars, let us hope that they are more successful next time around.

This Friday night, when the landlord says, “Time ladies and gentlemen please”, sadly this will indicate that the Big Mango’s time is up…
