V8 Diner Bangkok

The stylish American themed V8 Diner provides the perfect backdrop for good old fashioned comfort food. Comparable to an American diner, V8 has become a trendy hangout for young Thais, as well as foreign visitors alike.

V8 Diner is situated next to Insanity Nightclub downtown on Sukhumvit Soi 11, which has become somewhat of a club hub.

Today though, I want to mention the food at V8 Diner. There is a list of Super Saver Special Sets that will suit both Asian and Western tastes.

There is always plenty of eye candy here for the horndog’s and yet another advantage of V8 Diner is it’s open late.

You can’t go wrong at 199 baht pet set. Check it out foodies!

V8 Diner Dolls

Thursday, September 27th, 2018

The lovely lasses below are not paid models, they are regular Thai girls. They enjoy hanging out at V8 Diner in downtown Bangkok.

Part of the trend is to take photos and selfies using the classy decor in V8 Diner as a backdrop.

There is plenty of chatting, eating and drinking going on, but V8 Diner has become a trendy venue to hang out for young Thais.

V8 Diner is owned by Panthera Group which also owns Insanity Nightclub where the V8 is located on Sukhumvit Soi 11.  There is a large comfortable outside seating area.  When I was last there I had the Chilli con Carne and I have to say it was very good.   Great to see this place getting the popularity it deserves.

A Slice Of American Pie

V8 DINER 05 09 18 001 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

In my opinion, the classic diner is part of the unique fabric within America’s fine tapestry. Some people say that America does not have much history, but that is garbage because this great nation has some incredible history.

V8 DINER 05 09 18 113 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

The tale of the American diner dates back much further than you may think. Back in the 1920s through to the 1940s, the first U.S. diners appeared in the form of lunch cars, albeit this probably comes as somewhat of a surprise.

V8 DINER 05 09 18 015 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

The very first diners to emerge were cleverly constructed from old horse and cart wagons. Some were converted rail carriages, which I find fascinating.

As a kid in England, I grew up with the old British soap operas. Popular television soaps, such as Coronation Street and the mind-numbingly boring Crossroads television series. Crossroads featured the retarded Benny, who was obsessed with Miss Diane!

V8 Diner 08 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

The family TV soap entertainment was interrupted (luckily for me), by the distinct clanging sound of a loud metal bell. Nope, it was not the town crier if that is what you are thinking. It was of course, the fish and chip van doing its rounds after nightfall.

V8 DINER 05 09 18 135 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

The relevance to this story is the first American diners were glorified mobile eateries. These meals-on-wheels wagons were elaborate versions of the modern-day fish and chip and burger vans. These vehicles as the Yanks say with that Southern drawl, served food to the fine folks from their wagons.  Let the wagons roll cowboys… Yeeha!

V8 DINER 05 09 18 061 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

The mega trendy V8 Diner sits smugly next door to Insanity Nightclub. The location is on Sukhumvit Soi 11 in downtown Bangkok. Ironically, this pair of ever-popular venues is the epitome of two eras, that are many moons apart. I find that a slightly strange but interesting comparison.

V8 Diner 047 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

I really enjoyed Tarantino’s enthralling movie Pulp Fiction, featuring that famous American diner scene. I bet V8 Diner would love to see John Travolta and Uma Thurman pop in for a bite to eat, but let’s hope they leave their guns at home!

V8 DINER 05 09 18 069 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

The V8 Diner is brimming, wall-to-wall with memorabilia from a bygone era. There is even a 10 cents Coke machine and a nostalgic jukebox. Oh boy, if only a Coke still cost 10 cents!

V8 DINER 05 09 18 026 - Dave Rave Sunday Roast (23/09/18)

I doubt if anywhere in Thailand, you will discover such an authentic American Diner. I agree that Took Lae Dee Restaurants in Foodland Supermarkets are great Thai alternatives. However, remember they are a Thai version of a diner.

Therefore, the V8 Diner really is a nostalgic slice of good old American pie.

A Tale Of Two Citys

Sunday, June 25th, 2017

Although I don’t like sounding negative, it has been yet another quiet month for many bar bosses around Bangkok and from what I have seen myself and heard from my “ravers” things haven’t been much better in Pattaya either. To add fuel to the fire, there is more heat on the gogo bars from the MIB (Men In Brown), this is especially the case down in Sin City.

Where did all the big spenders go? This seems to be a question many bar owners are asking themselves. Do we sing Simply Red’s “Money’s Too Tight To Mention” as an appropriate phrase?! The clot plot thickens, as a number of folks find themselves with less and less disposable income.

When I ran Angelwitch GoGo Bar several years ago, we regularly had customers running up chunky bills, without even batting a eyelid. These days it seems people are much more careful about spending their money and are also looking for better bang-for-baht. Which begs the question; are gogo bars still offering good value for money? The dreaded coyote curse (agency dancers) has upset many a sexpat, with a number of bars and especially, bar girls pricing themselves out of the market. In fact, as an example of this, the Stumble Inn Group have already steered themselves in the direction of the more profitable beer bars.

However, as a former bar manager, I have witnessed a considerable drop in the “spender gender” with the cash-constipated clan, trying to make you believe they are down to  their last dollar. I say this in defense of the bars. The times I have seen a major debate (as though it’s a life, or death decision), whether they should order a drink, or not. These frugal folks need to be reminded that these are bars and not museums. There are a number of time-wasters out there. Another point is you can’t blame the bars for everything, which includes certain piss poor foreign currencies that struggle against a strong Thai baht.

My mate Toby was at a Bangkok gogo bar the other night and it was very quiet. There was just a few girls doing the skytrain shuffle on stage, staring into oblivion. Toby had a couple of Johnnie Walker Black’s and bought one gogo girl a lady drink — the bill was already 1,000 baht. I would advise you to ask what the drink prices are before you get stung!

Besides Thailand, is this becoming a universal problem? Back in Britain, the pubs and clubs are closing at an alarming rate, because people just can’t afford to drink in pubs and clubs anymore. If they want to sink some amber nectar, they often buy cheap booze from Supermarkets and drink at home. All of the nightclubs in my home town are closed down and people are forced to travel miles to enjoy clubland.

Meanwhile, back in Bangkok! There’s another part of this vast, sprawling metropolis that is booming. Welcome to clubland! I mention this, because this week the mega popular Insanity Nightclub is moving to Sukhumvit, Soi 11, which has become clubbers central. This “Insanity Gravity” will only strengthen Soi 11 as the main club hub in this inimitable city.

I have not seen the inside of Insanity Nightclub yet (located next to the former Q Bar), but I do know a ton of money has been spent on making it state of the art. Before I forget, the Opening Night this Thursday, June 29th.

It seems money is definitely rolling into the clubs and this seems to be a BIG shift from many moons ago, when clubs were very limited in Bangkok. I remember Thailand in the 1980’s with two of the most famous being Marine Disco in Pattaya and Angels Disco (Nana Hotel), which is now EQ Late Night Club. Things have really come a long way and this is indeed a very positive aspect of Bangkok’s nightlife.

The Castle Fetish Club in Pattaya opens a men only fetish club on July 1st. It is located next door and it is called Sodom.   When you go there just make sure you go through the right door, or you might be in for a bit of surprise. Sounds like a good prank for a stag night to me  🙂

Mercury GoGo Bar (Middle Floor Nana Plaza) is undergoing renovations. It turns a shade of pink on July 1st, as it reopens as Mercury Ladyboy Bar.

Cover Your What?

Saturday, May 13th, 2017

Well it’s been one hell of a week!  Which culminated with my entire website going on the Fritz on Friday night. Some frantic calls to the hosting provider and a few other people, and we managed to get the old girl back up again.

In this day an age, websites need updating technically, as well as regular content being posted. I am not a technical guy I just know the basics. But, me and the old girl have been through so much together since 2006 and I would be mortified if anything happened to my ole bird! 🙂

The All New Hillary 1 Reopens 2 - Cover Your What?

THE ALL NEW HILLARY 1 BAR (RAJAH COMPLEX SOI NANA)

Anyway, I remember years ago in England, when I was a nightclub doorman, this massive Bentley rolled up one day. My mate nudged me and said, ‘Here that’s Sheikh Yamani,’  and I replied a bit too loud, ‘Shake your what?’

Well it happened it again the other day when Joe was telling me about the new event he has planned for the end of May at the Black Pagoda, which is called ‘Cover Your Stones’  and I blurted out, ‘Cover your what?’

The event Joe was telling me about should be good  because it’s two of Bangkok’s most famous cover bands;  the Bangkok Beatles and Sticky Fingers, going head-to-head at the Black Pagoda.

I am looking forward to this, as I have seen the Sticky Fingers at Clubhouse Sports Bar and I have to say they are very good. I love The Rolling Stones songs and this promises to be a great night.  The video of the last live music event they did at the Black Pagoda looks like it went very well.

For anyone interested in this event it’s on Saturday 27th March from 9:00 PM at the Black Pagoda, Patpong 2 – tickets can be purchased on the day, or in advance on Oneplace. You can also join the Facebook event

There were a couple of big events over the past week, one was the 4 Year Anniversary at Insanity Nightclub.  That was on Thursday and I had every intention of going, but I got totally waylaid at the other event, which was the opening of the new Hillary 1 at Rajah Complex on Soi Nana.

Although I was not there my good mate Toby was about and he said it was a great night at Insanity Nightclub. But, I doubt if he can remember all of it. Toby did  manage to capture this video footage, which looks like he had slightly more interesting evening than me at Hillary’s. However, I have to say I was very impressed with the new venue and the refurbishment job is superb. Mind you, I thoroughly enjoyed the eye candy of several red hot promo dolly birds. There were some interesting guests, including some of the bar owners from Nana Plaza.

More news and tittle tattle soon. Cheers!

WOW! THIS GIRL CAN DANCE 😀 #insanity #bangkok
