BILLBOARD BANGKOK - Thailand Nightlife Reopens Its Doors

BILLBOARD BABES (TOP FLOOR NANA PLAZA BANGKOK)

Following the Thai Buddhist Holidays all the beer bars, go-go bars, pubs and clubs, are eager to burst open their doors tonight. In a vain attempt to make up for lost money by opening early, this strategy has proven to be an uphill battle.

These enforced bar closures are the downside of owning entertainment venues in a Buddhist country. However, rather than try to oppose the Thai authorities, it’s a much better idea to just roll with it.

These are referred to as ‘Dry Days’ also know to heavy drinkers as ‘Liver Recovery Days!’ There are several Buddhist Holidays throughout the year, so you are best advised to study the Thai calendar before you book your trip. With the tremendous amount of information available on the Internet nowadays, there is no excuse for poor planning. So you party animals, it’s time to go for it big time!

After Hours Clubs In Bangkok

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

thai girls go wild - After Hours Clubs In BangkokDusk Till Dawn

The after hours scene is constantly changing in Bangkok.  I remember a few years back when the Tunnel on Luang Suan was very popular, but that nightclub closed down.  One of the main places  for years now has been Spicy on Ron Mueang Soi 1 (off soi 5). It is a large venue that is open till around 6am.  Across the Street is the latest popular after hours nightspot Swing.  It opens late and carries on until midday!  So, it’s great for serious party animals. The downside is it’s small and can get packed. Furthermore, it can get too smokey.

Other popular late-night clubs include Climax Club on Sukhumvit Soi 11. The entrance is through the car park of the Ambassador Hotel. This club has live bands, which are pretty good. Climax is a popular place to party through the night. Open (usually) until 6am, it gets a number of Thai girls freelancing after the bars close at around 2am. Climax Club is one of those places that you will either love or loathe.

Bangkok Bars Closed On 28/08/10

Friday, August 27th, 2010

URGENT UPDATE – Due to local elections some of the go-go bars, beer bars and nightclubs will be closed in Bangkok on Saturday (28/08/10).  Pubs have been told not to serve alcohol, so Saturday is likely to be a dry day in most Bangkok bars.  The good news is that Pattaya is open and serving alcohol as usual, so you can plan accordingly.  I know that a number of guys have headed down to Pattaya for the weekend.

SOI COWBOY & NANA PLAZA UPDATE – Some go-go bars will be open in Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza tonight (28/08/10).  Several bar bosses have decided to open, but not serve alcohol.  It is never easy to give accurate updates, because the situation often changes so quickly.  A number of bars will close and others will open, but it will probably be a dry day.  Several sources are saying that the MIB or Men In Brown will be out checking the bars in Bangkok tonight.  Thai Elections and Buddha Days are sometimes taken very seriously.  Tonight in Nana Plaza the four Rainbow Bars, Mercury, Mandarin, Spankys and Angelwitch will be open tonight.  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Thailand Tonight – 24/02/2010

PAVEMENT PUB PATROL IN BANGKOK’S CONCRETE JUNGLE

Nowadays, taking a late night stroll down lower Sukhumvit Road is very different to what it used to be years ago. A continuous row of makeshift mobile bars set up shop after midnight along lower Sukhumvit, right on the roadside. The pavement pubs stretch from Sukhumvit Soi 3/1, right along towards Sukhumvit Soi 19. Some of the pavement pubs sell booze from around midnight until cockcrow. Most of the pavement pubs charge 80 baht for a standard drink, which is reasonable enough.  However, this concrete jungle is a dodgy place, with various creatures of the night on the prowl.  (more…)

Pattaya Bars Closing At 3:00am

PATTAYA STUNNED BY NIGHTLIFE CLAMPDOWNS

Thai authorities are continuing to order beer bars, go-go bars and nightclubs in Pattaya to close at 3:00am sharp.  Nobody seems to know why this nightlife crackdown has been imposed and how long it will last.  During a critical time for Pattaya’s nightlife scene, this harsh decision is a severe blow.  What on earth the Thai authorities think they will achieve is totally beyond disgruntled bar and nightclub owners.  Meanwhile, late night revellers are left in a state of shock and bemusement.  It’s remarkable to think that Bangkok currently offers better late night options than Pattaya.  The critical point is that Bangkok does not need to rely upon late night party-goers, but for Pattaya it is absolutely essential.  The good news is that most of these clampdowns don’t last very long.

Nana Disco Grand Finale Party

nana disco bangkok angels 004 - Nana Disco Grand Finale Party

BANGKOK NIGHTLIFE – THE END OF AN ERA

They say that all good things come to an end.  And so, following a period of 13 years, Angels Disco situated in Nana Hotel, is hosting a fond farewell bash.  This is the end of an era in Bangkok’s nightlife history.  For the sake of nostalgia, I have labelled it, “Nana Disco Grand Finale Party.”  There will certainly be some surprises on the night.  The owner of Nana Disco namely Rick, is retiring from the nightclub business.  Rick started out in Nana Plaza, when he took over the ownership of Hollywood Stars (now Angelwitch Go-Go Bar) in the early 1990’s.  After Rick opened Angels, or Nana Disco as it is more commonly known, it rapidly became an icon and therefore, popular from the very start.  Business has dropped off as other discos and nightclubs have emerged in recent years.  Also, the Thai authorities with their increasingly idiosyncratic ways have not helped matters at all.  Hey guys, think ‘tea time’ and you know what I’m saying here!

I have had some terrific times in Nana Disco, in which my frequent visits have spanned over a decade.  Let’s just say, I have met some ‘very interesting’ Thai girls during that period.  Personally speaking, I recall many entertaining nights and fond memories will remain forever.  I would often finish a shift in Nana Plaza and hit Nana Disco on an almost nightly basis.  In the late 1990’s and early part of the millennium, the late night hot spots were Nana Disco and Thermae Coffee Shop.  These venues were brimming with notorious ‘ladies of the night,’ but I was prepared to take my chances.  I can only describe this exciting era as ‘the good old bad days.’  Long gone are those times, when it was 500 baht to ‘love you short time’ and 1,000 baht to ‘love you long time.’  Nowadays, some Bangkok bar girls and freelancers are coming up with some scary figures.  Anyway guys, where were we?  Oh, about the party…

On Friday, July 31st, the Grand Finale Party, will offer FREE entrance and FREE drinks to everybody.  In case that completely stunned you I repeat; all the drinks are FREE until all the booze has gone.  Similar to a bar girl from Lolitas, the motto is ‘drink ’em dry!’  Doors open at 10:00pm.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish Rick and Paul the best of luck for the future.  Rick visited me in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar to let me know the news.  Rick said, “I want you to be the first to know and that you heard it from the horse’s mouth.”  Regarding his plans, Rick said he enjoys travelling and will continue to be based in Southeast Asia.

NOTE THE QUOTE – In the words of William Shakespeare, “Parting is such sweet sorrow.”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT – A final thought for us all to ponder.  Will anybody take over the ownership of Nana Disco?

Soi Cowboy Nightseeing Tour

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009

What do most people do on their days off? I suppose they relax, watch TV, surf the internet, spend quality time with their other half, go shopping, visit their favourite restaurant, pursue their favourite sports or hobbies, or go to see a movie. What does Dave The Rave do? He goes on a barman’s holiday, (I don’t drive buses) and visits the go-go bars in Soi Cowboy. Being the Go-Go Guru, old habits die hard, which is not surprising. And so, on a night off from my duties in Angelwitch, I decided to meet up with Sanook Shaun in Soi Cowboy. I know I’m fortunate to have this lifestyle, but I like to think my ‘sacrifice’ is for you guys! (more…)

Monday, May 19th, 2008

FLUID ASIA PACIFIC %20051 - Daves Raves - An Open And Shut CaseDue to today being a Buddhist Holiday some bars will be open and some will be closed.  It is something of an open and shut case!  Late last night I found out that most of the bars and nightspots in Bangkok and Pattaya will be closed tonight (Monday, May 19th).  Furthermore, as already predicted, the Thai authorities have ordered beer bars, go-go bars, discos and nightclubs to close out of “respect” for Visakha Bucha, which is one of the most revered Buddhist Holidays.

FLUID ASIA PACIFIC 052 - Daves Raves - An Open And Shut CaseHowever, there is some good news for those on a booze cruise.  For those of you in Bangkok who won’t be rushing off to a nearby temple, there are at least two pubs open in Bangkok tonight.  I am pleased to announce that the Stephen Hendry Roadshow will go ahead tonight as planned.  Former World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry will make appearances in Robin Hood Pub (Sukhumvit, Soi 33/1) at 18:00 and then in Bully’s Pub (next to the JW Marriott Hotel) at 20:00.  I will be there to meet a living legend of the baize.  Tonight John Smith’s Bitter and Strongbow Draught Cider will be available at a special discount price in Robin Hood and Bully’s Pub.  Cheers!

Sunrise Tacos Bangkok Thailand 004 - Daves Raves - Buddhist HolidayHello Guys, I have been thinking about you recently.  Hey, now don’t get worried, because I’m not getting gay here!  I appreciate the large audience that this website has created over the past 18 months.  Therefore, I want to keep you updated more regularly.  Recently, I have been wondering about how I could update the website more often.  You may have noticed that I have created several new pages.  At first, I was so proud to see those new sections up online for the entire world to see.  I thought, “Great stuff!”  Then I thought about the time and effort involved to update them all.  Oops!  I hadn’t taken that into consideration.  For example, if you look at the alphabetical listings, you will see that some are more updated than others are.  Please excuse me for that, but there are only so many hours in a day!  The good thing is that I can keep posting updates and those A-Z listings will eventually fill up with information.  It just takes time that’s all.  Last month this website received the most hits in over a year.  Thanks for all your support; this is what makes it all worthwhile.  Cheers!

BUDDHIST HOLIDAY — MONDAY, MAY 19th

Buddhist Temples Bangkok Thailand 001 - Daves Raves - Buddhist HolidayYou need to be aware that this Monday, May 19th is a Buddhist Holiday.  Wan Visakha Bucha is one of the most important Buddha Days on the Thai calendar.  From the information I have gathered, you will probably find that most nightlife areas across Thailand are likely to be closed on May 19th out of respect.  But, if you ask around you might get lucky.  Remember that restaurants and some pubs will still be open.  In conclusion, remember that the vast majority of go-go bars, beer bars and nightclubs will be closed.  If anything chances closer to May 19th I will post another update.

STEPHEN HENDRY ROADSHOW

Stephen Hendry 001 - Daves Raves - Buddhist HolidayFrom this Monday, May 19th until May 23rd seven-time World Snooker Champion Stephen Hendry will arrive as a guest of John Smith’s Bitter and Strongbow Draught Cider.  Stephen who comes from Edinburgh in Scotland likes Thailand and he has accumulated many Thai fans.  At one time, Stephen Hendry was top of the world rankings for a record eight consecutive years.  Stephen was also the youngest ever World Snooker Champion at the age of 21.  Stephen will be making a series of one-hour appearances at pubs in Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Samui.  Stephen will make himself available for a questions and answers session, as well as some exhibition frames.  John Smith’s Extra Smooth Bitter and Strongbow Cider will be available for a special discount price at each venue.

WISHING STEPHEN HENDRY A WARM WELCOME
