Pattaya Photo Gallery January 2020

Thursday, January 23rd, 2020

I just got back to Bangkok from an enjoyable two day trip to Pattaya. I thought you might appreciate a Photo Gallery to show you what it looks like these days. I think Pattaya is an acquired taste, so I will let you decide whether you want to visit or not. I make suggestions but I am certainly not pretentious enough to tell you what you like. :)

I took the bus to Pattaya from the station opposite BTS Ekamai and it only cost me 119 baht. You know what mate, the motorbike taxi ride to the bus station cost me more! If you are on a budget take the bus, otherwise barter a taxi ride for around 1,000 baht. Thailand is not expensive if you let Dave The Rave guide you!

I first visited Pattaya in May 1988 during a scorching hot season. Now, fast forward to 2020 and I still enjoy visiting Pattaya, even after all these years. Of course, a lot has to do with the fact I am a Thailand Nightlife Guru but nevertheless, I genuinely like Pattaya; albeit in small portions.

The intense furnace heat of Bangkok can and does wear you down. Believe me, I know I have lived here since 1999 and even the Thais complain about the heat.  Therefore, a visit to Pattaya gets me out of the furnace of the Big Mango to enjoy a (somewhat slightly) cooler climate.

I enjoyed staying at Robin’s Nest on Soi Diana, as I always do whenever I visit Sex-On-Sea. They run a tight ship at Robin’s Nest Pub but it retains a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere. Considering  Pattaya can be rather rough ‘n’ ready, they maintain high standards. Believe me, I have seen some dumps in my 30+ years here! Robin’s Nest has clean, comfortable rooms, great pub grub and live sports.

One positive thing about the beer bars and gogo bars in Pattaya is that they offer so many Happy Hours. If you are on a Booze Cruise the best gogo bar Happy Hour is 55 Baht Bottled Beers at Pandoras GoG0 Bar in Soi LK Metro. In addition, don’t miss Sapphire Super Sunday with Happy Hour prices all night at Sapphire Club in Soi 15 Walking Street. Also on Walking Street, Pin-Up Agogo offers a 90 Baht Happy Hour. These are just a few examples of the multitudes of Happy Hours in Sin City.

Without further ado here’s my Pattaya Photo Gallery!

Darwinism For Dummies

The gogo bar business in Bangkok and Pattaya is certainly not rocket science, but the poor performing pleasure palaces might make you believe otherwise. Without sounding too simplistic in my analysis, the strong remain strong and the weak remain weak. To be blatantly blunt, this is Darwinism for dummies!

You cannot just say the gogo bars are DEAD because some venues remain very popular. Certain factors will determine the survival of Thailand’s pleasure palaces. Recently, I have been reflecting upon the situation in the gogo bars…

Amid the animal kingdom, it is survival of the fittest, as Charles Darwin so aptly outlined in his theory of evolution. In the modern world of the neon jungle, the same theory applies. If you are not strong, healthy and equipped with the spirit of a warrior, you will be eaten alive in the neon jungle.

The gogo bar industry has become considerably more mercenary nowadays and to a large degree, it is a dog-eat-dog environment. Part of the mercenary attitudes of the bargirls is due to fighting for survival, but in other cases, it boils down to pure greed.

However, for various reasons the gogo bar business faces an uphill battle. Higher running costs lead to higher prices, pressure leads to mercenary attitudes, which then leads to less profit. This ‘business chemistry’ causes a chain reaction and we are certainly seeing more empty seats in numerous gogo bars these days. The golden era of gogo bars is long gone but a few pleasure palaces still do a roaring trade.

The two most popular gogo bars in Pattaya are Sapphire Club and Pin-Up GoGo Bar. These two are the elite gogo bars of Pattaya and definitely in a different league to most of their competitors. One major factor I have noticed is a big drop in attractive gogo dancers, especially those in their birthday suits. It is just too easy to meet Fat Pat or Plain Jane!

Modern technology has played a major part in making recruitment very challenging because so many attractive Thai women are available online. Hot Thai girls are available on various platforms such as escort agencies, dating websites and social media. Thailand has among the most Facebook profiles (per population) in the world.

Daves Raves – When I ran gogo bars in Nana Plaza Bangkok, I always stood by ‘quality’ rather than ‘quantity’ and that would be my advice to gogo bar bosses. Just like Zen Minimalism less is indeed more!

Super SaverPandoras GoGo Bar located in Soi LK Metro has a great bang-for-baht Happy Hour. Bottled Beers are just 55 baht from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm. The selection consists of nicely chilled bottles of Chang, Leo, Singha and Tiger. Thailand is not expensive if you know where to go. Do not listen to the killjoys, listen to the GoGo Guru!

Happy Holidays! Best Wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Many thanks for visiting this year and a BIG thank you to the guys who followed me since 2006 when I launched this website. 2020 will be the 14th year of this website and I am very proud of this achievement. Cheers!

Thai New Year Celebrations 2019

Water Wars Warning!

The crazy water throwing festival Songkran is about to start. I want to remind you that traditional Thai New Year will be celebrated all across Thailand on April 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th.

This year Thai New Year falls on a weekend, so the holiday has been extended. The Thais will take any excuse to take a holiday or party.

Down in Sin City otherwise known as Pattaya the water wars last a whole week and there is no escaping it!

Despite the Thai authorities saying they will be clamping down, there will still be many road deaths and injuries, health risks from contaminated water, plus the potential of violence, when things get out of hand. Most people want to enjoy Songkran but be warned, there are always some people who go too far.

This is the time of year when there is a mass exodus from Bangkok of both Thais and expat residents. We do not expect this year to be any different. I hope you enjoy Songkran but stay safe!

Below is a Songkran Survival Guide by The Thaiger…

Songkran Survival Guide – Top 10 Tips (2019) | The Thaiger

Songkran is a celebration of the Thai New Year on April 13 each year. What started as a respectful washing of Buddha images with water to welcome in the forthcoming wet season, has turned into a mega-water fight. No prisoners are taken in this annual water battle – if you head outside or drive along …

A number of ladyboys were arrested recently on Walking Street by Pattaya Police and members of the Tourist Police.

This is seen by many as a farce, as they are briefly detained, given a small fine, then released back onto the streets of Pattaya yet again.

Many of the transgender streetwalkers are notorious thieves, who can be extremely violent. There have been two very nasty attacks on tourists recently, with a stiletto shoe being smashed into their heads.

The latest foreign victim was an Irishman who was attacked by an enraged ladyboy, who smashed him on the head with a high-heel shoe. The stiletto shoe is the weapon of choice by these savages!

The photo below shows the horrific gash caused by a ladyboy streetwalker who attacked this Polish tourist.

You must be extremely careful when dealing with ladyboy streetwalkers. If it is possible move away from their path, but if approached try to smile and decline politely, which is much better than the situation turning violent.
