SOI COWBOY – LITTLE LAS VEGAS

Out of the three main go-go bar areas in Bangkok, Soi Cowboy remains the busiest overall.  This will probably become more evident, as the rainy season approaches.  The main reason is simple; the clientele in Nana Plaza and Patpong consists of an increasing number of tourists and infrequent visitors.  Therefore, the number of foreign visitors drops in the rainy season, as you well know.  In addition to a general decline in foreign visitors, Patpong has recently suffered further from the anti-government violence in Silom.  Furthermore, Patpong and Nana Plaza have more restrictions on ‘showing’ than in Soi Cowboy.  It is unfortunate for Patpong, but with Soi Cowboy being relatively unaffected by the anti-government protests, Cowboy will inevitably benefit from this situation.  Soi Cowboy has become popular with resident expats for several reasons, which includes the numerous Happy Hours on offer.  (more…)

NANA PLAZA – ENTER THE NEON JUNGLE

Recently, there is a noticeable increase in visitors to Nana Plaza and this past weekend saw some go-go bars packed to capacity with customers.  One reason is due to a five-day national holiday in Japan.  The three main Rainbow Bars, or ‘Jap Traps’ in Nana Plaza namely; Rainbow 1, Rainbow 2 and Rainbow 4 were brimming with Japanese customers.  I know I have a laugh at their expense, but the Japanese are usually no trouble at all as paying punters.  They never seem to complain, never get aggressive and rarely cause trouble.  In terms of behaviour and generosity, the Japanese are ideal customers for the go-go bars and not surprisingly, very popular with Thai bar girls.  (more…)

ROYAL CITY AVENUE – GET YOUR KICKS IN ROUTE 66

Royal City Avenue or ‘RCA’ is a popular little strip for Thais and foreigners alike to party the night away.  If you agree to buy a bottle of whisky, you will receive free entrance to the clubs.  If you don’t manage to finish the bottle that night, most clubs will reserve your bottle for another time.  If you are not into doing the hip-hop bop, some clubs provide live music as an alternative.  Live bands perform both Thai and Western songs. A GO-GO BAR FOR ALL SEASONS

AfterDarkAsiaMagazine01 - Thailand Night FeverOpening a successful go-go bar is a lot harder than it looks. Prior to establishing a successful go-go bar, there are inevitably some important factors to consider. Today, we will look at two of the most important aspects. Firstly, acquiring the right location is the first priority. The three L’s of marketing are; location, location, location. As long as you are in the heart of the action, people can find easily you. I always sigh with disappointment, when a go-go bar name card has a detailed map on the back. We don’t want to waste time doing a map orientation exercise! After establishing a prime location, probably the next consideration is the size and design. You might be surprised how many people overlook these things. I dare say some naïve newcomers think that they just have to open the doors and the customers will arrive in droves.  It is not that simple, as any go-go bar boss will tell you. Great care and consideration should be taken in deciding on the size of the go-go bar. If it is too tiny, you will never be driving around in a brand new Mercedes Benz in this lifetime! You just cannot generate enough profit to lead that kind of lifestyle. Besides that who enjoys being boxed in? Those poky places are only fun for those who like the hands-on approach. (Call me old fashioned, but I thought hanky-panky was for the privacy of the hotel room). I find that most Westerners like to have their own personal space. Lord forbid if anyone invades that personal space. Small bars usually make small profits. (more…)

DAVE THE RAVE’S BIRTHDAY BASH

Yui Naughty Girls Pattaya Thailand - Thailand Night FeverI will try to get Thailand Night Fever online as early as I can today, because it’s my birthday.  Give or take the odd week here and there, my birthday coincides with several anniversaries.  As coincidence would have it, my first trip to Thailand was 20 years ago in May 1988.  On May 20th, I will have been in Angelwitch for 3 years.  Also, this year sees me commence my 10th consecutive year in Nana Plaza, as the Go-Go Guru.  As you can see guys, 2008 is a rather significant year for Dave The Rave.  If you are in Bangkok, you are most welcome to help me celebrate my birthday tonight.  I will be in Angelwitch Go-Go Bar in Nana Plaza.  If you cannot make it don’t worry, because belated birthday wishes are always appreciated.  I look forward to seeing some of you later tonight.  I just hope that I manage to “survive” my birthday bash… Cheers! SOI COWBOY — WALK ON THE WILD WEST SIDE (PART 2)

SOI COWBOY BANGKOK THAILAND 08 - Thailand Night FeverAfter a few minutes of deliberation, the first go-go bar that we visited was Shark Go-Go Bar.  For such a good go-go bar, Shark was quiet, and this was a Friday night.  One positive thing about Shark Bar is that the drink prices are very reasonable.  Most of the regular house beers are 125 Baht, which is very good by today’s prices.  Shark Bar never feature any shows, but some guys might argue that the dancing dolls on stage is a show in itself.  I think that Shark has a high level of attractive go-go dancers, but this does come at some price.  Most of the dolly birds know that they are HOT and they will play on this.  The hot babes here will not always approach guys (especially strangers) and therefore, they can appear standoffish.  Furthermore, effort on your part is necessary if you want to meet and get to know the go-go dancers.
